Should I ask for new car to be delivered on trailer / truck?

I have bought a new ford fiesta from a company and they are saying that it will be driven to my house for free from the dealer. This means that it will have to be driven about 250 miles to my house. I have enquired about getting it transported but they keep saying that its 'driven delivery'.

I'm worried that as it is a new car and the manual says about driving slowly for the first few hundred miles will a long motorway drive do any harm to it. If it is transported then there are plenty of slower roads that I can use to avoid our local motorway whilst it is within the breaking in period. I'm also concerned about how it will be driven on the way down. Am I just being stupid or are these reasonable concerns.

The only other option they have given me is for me to collect it from them in Manchester but this would mean travelling up north by plane which costs about £60 without other costs for getting to and from the airports included. Also I work shifts so would have to swap around shifts in order to get there.

Should I insist on getting it transported down to my house or accept driven delivery?

Reasonable concerns. As long as you are willing to pay to have it transported the should have no issues with that.

So you must live either around London area or in the north of Scotland I presume. Sure an option would be to pick up yourself, I presume they may consider picking you up from either Manchester airport or Piccadilly train station if you wanted to do so. I suppose you could ask how much more for a trailer delivery, although I don't think you can insist on them paying for this service as I presume you are paying a cheaper price than it would be from your local ford dealership.

Cancel the order and buy the same car from your local dealer.

The days of running in cars and driving them slowly for the first 1000 miles are long gone. From day one drive it like you stole it.

You can't insist on anything you agreed to the whole deal when you agreed a price, now you need to factor in delivery options into that price to see if it is still a bargain.

You bought the car without getting this issue resolved first. Now you're stuck with what they give you. They won't deliver by truck because it costs them more money.
You can "insist" all you want. It isn't going to happen. If you don't want them to drive it its first 250 miles you've got to get yourself there.
It isn't the motorway that will harm a new car. It's being driven at a constant speed. As long as the delivery guy varies the speed it will be fine.

Highway speed is no problem. New cars shouldn't be run at wide open throttle, or revved at high RPM. A run on the highway is not a problem, as modern cars run at 2K RPM or less, which is perfectly safe. RELAX.

My cars manual told me not to exceed 100MPH for the first 200 miles.
Umm!
I also live in the UK.
Either collect it or have it delivered. Your choice. Delivery will be driven.

  • What is a good, cheap, RELIABLE used truck for hauling a trailer? (Mowing)? It would be for my mowing and yard work business. It will also be my first vehicle as I turn 16 in a few months. I can afford around $6200 or less. I would prefer that it would last for several years, which is the Most IMPORTANT aspect. Ford Rangers are very cheap, but would they hold up for very long carrying around a trailer with a zero turn mower, push mower, and trimmer?

  • Can i ask the ford dealer to trade my car in on full value? I bought a Ford Mustang GT in mid March brand new, but i bought it automatic. I now realize that this was a huge mistake, and i want to get the same car in manual. The MSRP on the manual is about 2000 less than the automatic. I have put about 3000 miles on the car. Do you think they will give me full value for the car?
