How does a Ford Fiesta TDCi 1.4 Zetec Perform against a Mini ONE 1.6 (Petrol)?

Hi, I currently have a 2003 Mini ONE 1.6L (petrol) and have enjoyed driving it for 2 years now, but as it is 11 years old (and has done 116,000 miles), I have decided that it's time to move on. I have put down a deposit on a Fiesta TDCi 1.4 Zetec which is only 4 years old (2010) and has very low mileage (28,000). This seemed like a great option as it is a lot younger and less mileage and, being a diesel, I'll be saving on running costs.

My only concern is it's performance against my Mini. I only drive short distances during the week, but on the weekend, I travel from Bristol to Cardiff and enjoyed the Mini's performance on the motorway.

According to the stats, the Mini is about 10.6 seconds 0-60 whereas the Fiesta is 14.8 seconds 0-60 which is obviously quite a big difference.

What I want to know though is how the Fiesta performs whilst on the motorway and specifically when I need to accelerate (like when overtaking). How does it compare to the Mini, or even the petrol equivalent of the Fiesta.

Please could someone give me some info/experience on this as I'm hoping I haven't bought a car that's too under-powered.

The 1.4 zetec is one of the worst engines Ford has ever produced. They have never produced a good 1.4 for some reason even though all the other engines are good.

Test drive it by all means but it will be much slower than your current car.

Oh dear. After the Mini the Siesta is going to be very dull and slow of the mark. The other bad news is that due to the higher price of diesel, the fact you cover less than 15000 miles a year and soon increased taxes on diseasal cars the increased miles per gallon will be insfficient to cover the increaed costs. Better go to the dealers and see if the deposit can be swapped onto a better car

  • White smoke coming from exhaust, Ford Zetec 1999 petrol? I have no other problems with the car, it has 1/2 tank petrol, and oil. At first I thought it may be the cold but, it happens too often for that.
  • Ford KA 2011 or Mini One 2005? For a young driver which car would you go for - I've had a 2003 mini cooper for the last year but I now need a new car as my current mini needs replacing due to being in a non-fault accident. Has anyone got any helpful pointers to help me make a decision.
  • Ford Fiesta Mark 7: 1.6 Duratec Petrol vs 1.6 TDCi PSA/Ford? I'm looking to buy a 2008-12 Fiesta Zetec S trim and wondered which engine is best. I will be buying the car on around 85000 miles. Which engine is more reliable and can go to higher mileage (>125,000) easier? What are common issues on both engines? What are common issues with the MK7 Fiesta in general? What's real world mpg (I'm aware this varies person to person but would still like to know)?
  • How does one start a class action suit against Ford? The problem is with 2005 Ford Escapes. The rear disintegrating inner wheel wells cause the shock towers to break loose and hit the inner storage area. The repair is expensive if you can find he parts and is a safety hazard. The problem was covered under a recall for previous years. I have also heard that problems extend as far as 2012. Ford refuses to acknowledge the problem. Most people in today's economy can't afford the repair or a new car.
