Did I get a good deal? BMW 328 xDrive?

I had a 2011 ford fiesta se with sync and power package, 5 speed.
I owed 13.7k.
I purchased.a 2011 BMW 328i xDrive (base). With trade, out the door, I paid 27k.
Both vehicles have 30000 miles on them.
Would that be considered an acceptable price?

Ok so either i misunderstood the original post or mccoyblues did. Yes you overpaid the BMW by 4-5k but you compensated for the 5k from the ford. If you were to sell your ford for 8k and pay the bank 13 k you would have still lost the 5 k. In other words there was no way for you to get rid of the ford without losing money. So if you wanted to change the car you lost money. With that ebing said the deal is good since you will be paying the regular price of 22k for the bmw + the 5k extra you owed for the ford. Nothing wrong there.

@mccoyblues yes "LUXURY EUROPEAN CARS" are more expensive than FORDS but i don't think he needed to hear your biased opinion on it. Maybe some of us like comfort/style and the looks of german cars.

You bought it so it's obviously an acceptable offer to you.

The BMW is worth about $22,000-$23,000. You paid $27,000 so you overpaid by $4000-$5000
The Ford is worth about $8000-$8500. You owe $13,700 so you lost $5200-$5700

So the Finance Manager must have rolled that $5000 negative equity into the price of the new car.

Personally I think it's a lousy deal financially, you lost money trading in the Ford and you spent too much money buying the BMW, but you did end up with a much nicer car.

Moral of the story. If you can live with your payments, if you won't be struggling financially to pay for this high end European luxury car then who really cares. It's your money.

Just remember every time you get behind the wheel of that BMW it's costing you more. More to buy the premium fuel it requires, more to insure, more to maintain, more to repair. Even a simple oil change will cost more in the BMW because it requires full synthetic motor oil. Have you priced the cost to replace those high performance tires? You'll spend $900+ on a new set of four tires. Labor rates for BMW techs compared to Ford techs. BMW mechanics make a lot more money so they charge more plus the cost of BMW parts is very high.

I would have stayed in the ford i don't know why you leased or financed and then trade it in when you still owed 14k your practicality digging a hole and burying yourself.

  • Is this a good deal on this car? Okay, so my dad totaled my grandma's 1999 Ford Taurus and this is the closest thing I could find to what she had. My grandma doesn't drive much so the vehicle's age doesn't matter really but she still wants a car to drive around in. My local Mazda dealer is selling this 2008 Mazda5 with 92,567 miles for $8,980. Is this a good deal?

  • Is this a good deal for a 1974 ford ltd? The car looks great in person, and the guy seems very trustworthy. Selling for $4,500. I'm looking for something reliable but still has some mojo and comfort.
