Why is my insurance so high?
My car insurance is $1300 for every six months. My sister's is $700 every six months.
My car is a 2004 Honda Civic LX. I have never gotten a ticket or in an accident.
My sister drives a 2001 Ford F150. She also has a clean driving record.
I'm 17 and my insurance has been $1300 since we got my car a year and a half ago.
My sister is 19 and her insurance has been $700 since she got it 2 years ago(she didn't get her license until she was 17).
My dad has asked the company why mine is so high in comparison but they keep saying they don't know why.
We both also have the discount for good GPAs in school.
Could the reason for my insurance be the make/model of my car or maybe the year?
I'm going to Texas for college and will need new insurance when I get there however I'd like to know if there's something I can do to lower the insurance since I'll be the one paying for it.
You have to shop around and compare auto insurance quotes from providers in your area. You can use a site like QuoteAgents.com to comparison shop the cheapest places in your area.
Are you a guy? Because that would explain a lot.
You're also younger and less experienced than your sister, and those are big factors. Your vehicle is more expensive to insure, but that's a small factor compared to the other stuff.
But if you're a guy, that's a big big factor during the under 25 years. That's because ever since driving was invented, guys have been hitting things faster, harder and more often than girls. It's not a recent thing, it's been that way year after year and decade after decade. And insurance companies all know it and charge accordingly.
I used to argue against it when I was young, just like every other guy who had to pay for insurance. I was a safe driver, I knew plenty of girls who drove worse than any guy, and so on and so forth. But it turns out I was wrong, because guys really do have more accidents and their accidents are much more spectacular.
I worked in auto insurance for 15 years. When a teenage girl would buy a policy, I knew there was a pretty good chance of an accident happening. When a teenage boy bought a policy, I would fill out the accident report in advance and just leave the date blank, because I knew what was going to happen.
Your less experience then she is. The insurance rates go up every year due to cost of living. And not only that your driving what is consider a high thief car.
By any chance is it Geico? I would shop around Top priority! I was a customer with Geico for several years. I had ~700 premium. I dinged a bumper (~300 repair) and ''inquired about hail damage" they raised my rates to 1,700 for a six month. I'm with state farm now and Way better off! Geico sends me a "why'd you leave" "we miss you " letter every now and then. And I must say… It makes excellent toilet paper!
- Why does my car rev high all the time and drive without me touching the gas? It revs at stop lights and when sitting idle at drive throughs, and when I'm driving highway speed. It'll rev up to almost 3000 rpms especially in idle. It is a ford Taurus 2005 with 99,700 mi on it.
- Why do I have to pay so much for insurance? I'm 18, and I bought a car. A 1999 Ford Taurus. I'm only driving about 2 miles a day, to and from work. I have to Pay around 200 dollars a month for insurance. This infuriates me because my sister, who is 20 and is a terrible driver, is paying 100 dollars a month, and is driving around 20-30 miles a day. It doesn't seem fair. Is this price expected, or am I being ripped off?
- Why won't the high beams work on my car? I just bought a 2012 ford mustang and everything works perfectly except for the high beams. Low beams, parking lights, turn signals, fog lights all work. The person I bought the car from did have EMT lights put in and removed them before selling me the car. Is it possible he messed something up when removing the EMT lights? If not what could the problem be?
- Why is my car insurance so high? I'm a 41 year old guy that lives in London with a EU license for over 20 years. I have been in the UK for about a year and I'm shocked that I just got enough money to buy a Audi Q7 2012 and checked my insurance that it's 150 a month! My friend pays 40GBP a month for a 20111 BMW, i don't understand? I checked my insurance on a Ford Focus and it is still at 130GBP a month, any ideas?
