What should I do about the cost of repairs on my truck? 5.4 triton?
I just turned 16 a few days ago. So I got a basically free truck. Actually when I was like 6 or something, my rich neighbor bought a new ford f150 lariat crew cab. And you know how little kids are with cars right? Well I was obsessed with it and would play in it all day. My neighbor eventually said when I'm 16 he'll sell it to me for 100$ thinking it would have no value by then. So now I have the truck and it's got big problems (240k miles) and I want to know if I should get a new car, or just fix my truck. I've got 5000 in the bank… So I should be good with repair money. First of all, the car has a very hard idle like it is going to stall most of the time, and it bogs out really bad too when it's going over 30 mph but once it's up there it runs fun as long as you don't stop because it feels like it will stall out. I took it to a mechanic and he said it would be 1800 to fix one part ( I have no clue which) it was something that started with a c not catalytic converter. But it's expensive to fix and they don't even know if that's the real problem. So I'd be out a lot of money if that's not the problems. My other choice is to completely rebuild the motor for about 4k. To me that seems like slot because it's basically my life savings which I don't want to spend on rebuilding a motor… Any advice here? This is a 5.4 triton by the way. I read it's a good motor but mine has problems. Multiple misfires, camshaft codes came up at the shop please help me!
Have a shop class at your high school? Enroll in it, talk instructor into letting you park it in shop, and learn to fix it yourself. Voc. Tech. Programs get HUGE break on parts.
Youre 16. Sell it for as much as you can, or possibly use it for trade. Get an experienced adults help with this, trust me.
you should get a beater car. A geo metro or something. Better to not have payments, and something that won't be so terrible if you slam it into a tree. Get a 90s civic or something
don't blow your money, keep saving!
- I have a 2004 ford f-150 5.4 triton new body style and the exhaust makes noise? It does not make the noise when i'm in park or neutral however when i put it in reverse or drive it starts making like a ratttle noise? kind of sounds like the ehaust is loose but when my boyfriend checked under it it seemed fine. It only does it about 15 minutes after being started but there's days when there's no noise at all
- Doing the exhaust on my 99 ford f150 xlt 5.4 triton v8 4x4 8in lift 40in tires? I'm going with the magna flow performance true dual 3in outlet, but want to run 45% elbows with MBRP 5in inlet and 8in outlet tips to come out after the rear tires at an angle. How could I get the 3in to an 5in and would it even sound good?
- Will a triton v8 from a ford expedition fit in my 1989 thunderbird? Not gonna do it sense it's the family ford expedition I'm eyeballing, but just wanted to know if I would be able to drop it in… Would mounts be right? Would it connect to the Tranny righy? And would it even fit?
- Pay for the repairs on the piece of junk, or buy something reliable from a dealer? I just bought an 03 Ford Escape for $3000 in Hawaii. Did a pretty thorough inspection, took for a test drive, and bought the car from a local. Next day, all hell breaks loose. Engine begins misfiring (needs new coil paks), sway bars almost fall off, back door doesn't lock, and then the battery dies on me (could be the alternator). At this point I'm unsure wether to spend all this money on repairs, trade in and buy from a dealer, or sell on Craigslist and buy from a dealer.
