Ford a manual 1996 F-150 you could have the following axle ratios
For the 4.9L I6 (300 CID) you could have either a 2.73 (2WD only), 3.08. 3.31 (4WD only) or 3.55
For the 5.0L V8 (302 CID) you could have either a 3.08 or 3.55
The manual wasn't offered with the 351W in the F-150 for 1996. You if check the axle code on the label on the door jamb, someone could tell you for sure what the ratio is.
You can look it up here from your dataplate number, maybe a 3.73 (code 6) http://shnack.com/articles/17/

- 2007 Ford Ranger rear end jerks on acceleration after a downshift at about 20 MPH? 2007 Ford Ranger 28,000 miles, 8.8" Rear axle 3:18 gears auto trans. Every now and then when I accelerate from around 20 MPH and the truck downshifts there's a small jerk in the rear end a second after the downshift. Is this normal? I just bought the truck and never had RWD before. If someone knows what the problem is that would be awesome!
