Starting a new trucking business with what insurance?

I'm starting my own shipping company just for myself, I have made myself an llc company and also got an mc number and allowed to ship household items, as of now what I'm driving is a Ford F-150 and hopefully soon getting my self a trailer or at worst hiring on from uhaul just to get started, my question is that I have being looking for cheap commercial insurance for about a week and this have nothing, the insurance company I think I'll pick is progressive commercal and the problem is it needs to be aleast 300.000 insurance and I've received a quote and the down payment is between 800 and 1800, that's far to much for me right now, and I played around with the quotes and the lowest down payment I got was just over 359, that's more like it, but it doesn't really insurance me, can I put that thought anyway and when it's done upgrade to everything I need, I know I'll be paying a lot more by month but if my business goes half as good as I hope for I should be able to afford it, can this work out?

If that is too much for you now, then you need to reconsider your business plan. Are you planning to purchase insurance to cover the possessions in your "Care, Custody and Control?" Phrase in quotations since its a big deal in insurance…

You can buy a policy with minimum limits and then increase later, thats not a problem.

Have you even looked at Workers Compensation yet? If you ever want to enter any facility (apartment complex, storage facility, etc), they will require business auto, general liability and workers comp.

This is an insurance question, so I'm moving it to the "insurance" section for you.

Honey, you're not going to have many options here, but I promise you, the Progressive quote is NOT valid for what you are doing. It's nowhere NEAR enough premium for a brand new trucker - even with liability only - with that MC Docket number. You also need motor truck cargo coverage, and THAT is going to cost you probably $1500 - no payments on that one.

Don't forget workers comp for the guys who are loading and unloading. You can't avoid it by calling them subcontractors - legally, you're on the hook for all the medical bills and lost wages of your subcontractors, unless they carry their own workers comp. And if you don't carry it, they can also sue you for pain and suffering.

Oh, loading and unloading is covered under General Liability, not auto. So you'll need that, also.

There's a reason why moving companies charge so much - it's really expensive to pay for the insurance that covers it. Partially because there are LOTS Of claims.

If you can't afford general liability and vehicle insurance, then frankly you're not yet financially ready to start a company. It takes CAPITAL (cash) in the bank to start even a small company.

Commercial policies are not "cheap" but they are necessary to do business.

  • How is ebay still in business? They allow the Chinese to sell FAKE sterling jewelry (50 cents for a "sterling" ring) and FAKE silver dollars (counterfeit) and FAKE silver bars. They have more complaints against them than GM Ford and Toyota COMBINED. A lawsuit is filed against ebay every 8 minutes! A California judge called ebay "the worlds largest criminal organization" from the bench!
  • Car cuts out whilst starting a couple times and also because if being revved fully after starting? So yeah, it does that from starting cold i think. It has been suggested that its my Idle air control valve but i've cleaned that out and it still does it. Also replaced spark plugs. Its a Ford Fiesta 1998. However, it idles fine as soon as I've moved the car. So even when stopped it is fine as long as i have driven it since start up. The issues only happen on start up. Any ideas?
