Should I get an 1989 Ford F-150?
Okay, I just recently turned 16 in May. A few weeks after I turned 16 my mom got me a 2000 Honda Accord. I honestly just wanted an old pickup truck. I haven't been able to drive the Accord since I got it for a bunch of reasons involving the transmission & brakes. I really don't like the car except for it's gas mileage. (About 40 mpg!) I know I shouldn't be too picky about it but I really just wanted something simple that I liked. Nothing too flashy or anything. My mom told me that if I could find someone willing to trade that I could. That's what my older sister did with her first car. So I literally just started looking and found an old 1989 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck. I really really like it. There are a few little issues with it, but nothing my dad couldn't fix. (He's a mechanic)
The problem is, I don't know if I should. I know that the truck doesn't get good gas mileage, but the Honda Accord does. I also don't want some truck breaking down on me, so we'd have to look at it before hand obviously. I just don't want any problems a few months down the road and no car whatsoever. So is the 1989 Ford F-150 a good truck to have? It has 120,000 miles on it but the Accord has 230,000 I believe. I know it all depends on how well it is all maintained. I just can't seem to make a decision. If anyone can give me their input on the situation I'd be very thankful!
Also, I don't really plan on going too far honestly. I plan on going to school and to work. So mpg isn't too important.
If you like the truck, learn about it with your dad while he fixes it to max dependability. The straight 6, 2wd has the most low end torque and gets decent mileage. You just have to retorque a few things periodically like the intake. If it has the zf trans its like a godsend. I wouldnt trade unless it was so equipped. Your dad will be all smiles to see you are taking a true interest. He can teach you the basics and show you the best selling pickup there's in simple form.
Why to you think a 25 year old P/you would be dependable. If your dad was such a god mechanic why can't he fix the brakes on the Accord? Also If gas mileage didn't matter then why mention it so many times.
Stop being so whinny, fix the Honda and be thankful you have it.
I say just go for it. Just by reading this I can tell you really want the ford. It should do perfect if your planing on using it for school and work. But it is a 89' that's pretty old compared to your 2000. So i don't know I would save up some money and buy a 2004 f150, but that's comes down to you really?!
- Should Sears and Ford HIRE Dotard McTiny as their CEO and get profitable again! If he can get Foreign Diplomats and American Lobbyists to? Pay $350.00/night to sleep in a tiny room in an old Post Office and keep it FULL and VERY PROFITABLE, don't you think that he could come up with an idea to save 40+ thousand American jobs?
- What class hitch should I get to tow a 8000 lbs. Airstream trailer? I have a Ford F-150 pick up that will hau? I have a Ford F-150 that will haul 8800 GVW and it has a trans. Cooler on it Ratio is 3.73 5.4 V-8 2" receiver
- Should I get a 2006 Ford F-150 XLT or 2006 Chevy Silverado Z71? Which truck would be better… I need a tough truck to haul around kids (both are 4-door), a little off-road driving around the farm and fishing, pulling a 4k to 5k trailer. Which engine is better, Fords 5.4L or Chevys 5.3L? Is one transmission better than the other? Which will give me the least or most problems? All pros and cons appreciated, thank you!
- I would like to know if 04-08 Ford F-150 rear suspension parts would fit on my 1998 Ford F-150? I'm building a prerunner and have already received a long travel kit for the front of my 1998 Ford F-150, but I'm having trouble finding rear suspension parts for it. Honestly I'm perfectly fine with just a pair of Fox 2.5 Factory piggybacks, but I can only find some for the 04-08 Ford F-150 and I just wanted to know if they would bolt onto my 1998 Ford F-150.
