My 2004 Ford F150 was running fine on good Friday, and the next day Saturday evening my motor was tapping?

My 2004 Ford F150 was running fine on last Friday, and Saturday evening my lifters was making an loud nocking sound, I took it to an mechanic and he told me its my lifters, or the cam phases, It seems impossible for that to happen in one day. I have 148,000 mile on the vehicle. Like I said it was running fine on good Friday. My mechanic suggest that I don't fix it and buy an new motor. Can anyone help me on the situation

Check your oil level first. If it's low, dump it all after you warm it up and replace with the proper amount. Also change the filter. Oh, and don't drain the old oil while the engine is running!

I would certainly get another opinion. But bear in mind that when a component fails it isn't always over a period of time, sometimes it can be instantaneoulsy. 143k is a lot of miles and parts fail on all vehilces over time. We don't know the engine you have so my answer is not specific in that regard. Some engines have a reputations of certain component failures.

  • My car makes a tapping sound that comes and goes? The other day I was driving my car and I felt a jolt then a loud knocking sound starting coming from the top of my engine. I checked my oil and I was really low so I parked the car out oil in the car. The starts up just fine but when I driving it makes a loud knocking sound that comes and goes. Like when I speed up it stops when I slow down it starts back up again. But it comes and goes as I'm driving. Does anyone have and idea on what it could be. My car is a 2000 ford mustang.
