Release the brake. One of the things the brake light does is remind you that the parking brake is on.

It lights up in the dash like that to let you know the e brake is on. But, once you release it it will be good to go. I have a 2004 f250. But if that ever happens without the e brake its sometimes a brake fluid issue. The rear to abs brake line broke on my truck about a year ago. So the fluid leaked out and caused the light to turn on. But in your situation it should just be that the e brake needs released.
That is normal. Release the brake and the light will go off.
Great that switch works. Take off the ebrake before driving.
