Most probably a bad ignition coil.

How to fix it - have someone read the code stored for the check engine light. It will likely be a P0301, P0302, 3,4,5, etc. The first few digits means misfire. The last digit corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring.

Replace the ignition coil and spark plug in that cylinder, if you can afford it, replace all of them. They will all fail its just a matter of time.

You will need a 7mm socket and driver, a spark plug socket and driver, and a 6-10inch extension for said drivers. You may also need an 8mm,10mm, and/or 13mm socket or wrench depending on which cylinder it is and which motor is in your truck.

In my 10 years as a technician, I've replaced more of these than any other part on any ford truck, by far.

Sounds like a miss fire you should change the spark plugs and spark plugs wire first and then check the pistons because it's more expensive to check the pistons

  • What's causes car to jerk and the check engine light to go on and off? My car was working fine yesterday! It's a 2005 ford explore. I went to turn it on earlier and it started jerking a lot! I let if warm up a bit than the check engine light came on than it went off and on again. It keeps turning on and off! I know I need to change my spark plugs soon! Can it been the spark plugs causing it to jerk and the light to turn on and off?
  • Check engine light on my 2004 ford taurus fault code P0420? I ran the code running a generic OBD2 scanner and I got P0420-ford saying Type- Powertrain Auxiliary Emissions Controls ISO/SEA Controlled Description- Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Location- Bank 1 If anyone knows what that means can you please explain
  • Car shakes still? My 94 Ford Taurus shakes on the highway. 65-80 mph and after 80 it stops? I've gotten new tie rods, a realignment, new breaks, and resurfaced rotors, and it still happens to shake even though the mechanic said that the problem was the rotors being warped. Before I spend more money on the damned thing I was wondering if anyone here had some insight to why it's still shaking on the highway. One thing I've noticed is that when I accelerate a chirping sound ensues and chirps faster as I go faster? Any ideas? Please?
  • Difference between SERVICE ENGINE SOON and CHECK ENGINE light? Is there any difference? I have a Ford Mustang 2002 and my SERVICE ENGINE SOON light is on. Does it mean something is wrong with my car? Do Mustangs also have a CHECK ENGINE light?
