How much will it cost to replace a rear passenger side caliper and two read brake pads on a 2002 f150?
My husband has a 2002 ford f150 and on his way home from work just before he got home the brakes became soft, he had to push it all the way to the floor. When he got out there was a burning smell from the rear passenger wheel well. I'm guessing the caliper needs replacing and probably brake pads. Any ideas?
Yeah thats a start. But the master cylinder might also be shot the brakes should not hit the floor like that hopefully he just ruptured a rear brake line causing the loss in pressure. Just for the brakes and caliper done in your drive way yourself 200 bucks or so.
Calipers are usually in the $50 range. Decent pads will be the same cost. You may need to replace the rotor too. Remember, you don't want to just do one corner. If the rotors look decent, you can just swap in new pads, but when brakes fail like that, I usually find everything worn back there.
Caliper: $50 ish
Pads: $50 ish
Two new rotors: $100 ish
I just did 4 rotors, one caliper, and new pads in my Daughter's car for right around $350.
Any ideas? Do you not know to call for a tow truck and have the vehicle, the F150 (not "f150") to an auto repair shop. Why are you guessing and asking for more guesses? What difference does it make? As to asking here for an estimate, again, what is the purpose of that? Vehicles are repaired locally and only a mechanic, after a complete inspection of the vehicle to determine its status, can proffer an estimate. For all we know this F150 could need all four brake assemblies replaced do to wear and damage. The master cylinder may be shot and lines may be in need of replacing. This Internet texting thing has created far too many addicts to the texting which has afflicted the logic and powers of problem solving in its victims. Tow truck plus auto mechanic. That is the formula.
When I talk to mechanic he said that if the caliper clamped shut it could make the brakes soft.
You had better check the brake hose and brake lines first.
- How to undo bolts on Ford Galaxy 2003 Front & Rear brake caliper to renew disc's and pads? I need to renew the disc's and pads at the front and rear of Ford Galaxy 2003. I have the correct sockets and a large extension bar, but they will not budge (front or rear). I have tried WD40, thinking of trying a little heat, but its a bit near to the brake hoses. All suggestions gratefully received. I have a full workshop manual on this car issued by Ford which just says that they are tightened to 190Nm. The front bolts are huge 27mm and the rear bolts are 18mm.
- How much is it for a mechanic to change your front brake pads? It's a ford territory 2004 we brought the pads just need too put them on also an oil change as well how much
- I have a knock on rear passenger side what is it? I have changed the shock absorber as it was worn out. Now if anything the noise has got worse. Is the a bush type thing that the top of rhe shock sits in to stop the knocking? Its a 53 plate ford fusion 1.4 petrol
- Why is a brake caliper job so expensive? Ford Focus front right hand wheel brake sticking when driving caused noise and some vibration at certain speeds. Tyre place Stapeltons took it apart after the wheel didn't spin freely and said there was corrosion in there, calipers need replacing with brake fluid change. He said both front wheels would have to be done and said 575 quid straight away. They can whistle for that… Sounded like a rip-off artist. I'm trying my local family run garage instead.
