2002 ford f150 won't start?

Let me start by saying i wasn't there. This is second hand from my husband.

Leaving from work he got in the truck, key in ignition, instrument lights came on but truck won't start. Says it's just making a buzzing sound. Found negative cable on battery to be loose. Tightened it but still won't start, just buzzing. Tried to jump it. Nothing. However it would start when they pushed it. He's driving home now.

What could be the problem? My husband is a plumber, not a mechanic, we know very little about cars/trucks.

The buzzing is due to relay or solenoid not being fully engaged. This is likely due to low battery voltage and power. Loose connection may have stopped alternator fully charging battery plus not allowing full charge to starter motor.
A push start leaves all battery power to ignition circuit as starter uses heaps of power to crank an engine.
If we now have clean! As well as tight connections. After a run such as half hour or longer at speeds around 30 mph or more. We ought to get enough charge in battery from alternator to crank easily next day.
If we still get cranking issues? Get battery checked out.

Clean the battery posts. Check BOTH ends of BOTH positive and negative cables for secure, clean connections. Check the fenderwell solenoid. IT grounds thru it's connection to the fender. Make sure it isn't loose or corroded, and is making good contact to ground. After you've ascertained all the connections and grounds are good, THEN you can begin to wonder about the battery and/or charging circuit.

It sounds like the battery needs charging and the cable connections need cleaning. The battery may be good. If it is, it should be charged up when he gets home.

If you can locate starter tap it lightly with metal rod few times and try to start. Try few times and don't have some idiot kicking the starter while you trying to start it so he would not loose his fingers in moving parts. If it starts than it is faulty starter.

  • I have a 2002 Ford Taurus that won't start? It started one minute, I drove home. Later that night it just wouldn't start. It cranks and tries but fails. The pump turns on. I'm assuming it's not getting fuel. My question is what could cause it to not start. Or what would prevent fuel from getting to the engine beside the injectors and the fuel filter
  • 2002 ford ranger wants to start but won't? I took the truck threw a mud hole. Made it threw then truck stalled. I got it to start back up but it was blowing out some smoke so friends convinced me to just let it sit and dry. I did that and now it won't start at all. It acts like it wants to but just won't.
  • 2002 Ford Focus won't start after driving on the highway for 15 minutes? I have a 2002 Ford Focus LX with about 130,000 miles on it. If I drive it on the highway for about 15 minutes, when I finally turn the car off, it won't start back up unless I get a jump or if I let it sit for about 2 hours. I've gotten a new alternator a new battery and new battery terminals (old ones were corroded). Can someone please tell me what's wrong with my car, I'm tired of wasting money on things that don't need to be fixed.
  • 2003 Ford F-250 Powerstroke won't Crank, won't start? When I turn the key, I get a rapid clicking noise, and the indicator lights on the dash flicker. Glow plugs also sound like their barely getting enough juice. No crank at all. I hooked up my 100w solar panel with a automatic12/24 volt charge controller, which said batteries had a good charge. Went ahead and charged them fully, followed by cleaning the post, and battery connections of corrosion. Result was the same, won't start. Any ideas what could be wrong?
