1997 Ford F150 Engine Issue?
I have a 1997 Ford F-150 & the engine is making a knocking noise, there's also white smoke coming out the exhaust pipe, the more I drive around the thicker the smoke is in the tail pipe. I can leave it running idle in yard and knocking continues and truck gets to where it turns off few minutes later.
We already changed blown head gasket, this fixed one problem but now this has started.
What could this be?
Added (1). Also, upper radiator hose keeps collapsing, what is causing this?
Don't you think it would help if you told us WHICH engine you're talking about. Ford had at least 4 engine options that year.
Bad main bearing, possibly a rod/rod bearing. Gonna need a rebuild.
The knocking is a bad bearing either on the crank journal or rod ends, also a severely scored piston can do this.
I would pull the motor and replace it with another, a rebuild can be costly and never know how long it will last. I prefer stock motors with any mileage since OEM parts were higher quality just to keep you on the road.

- 2006 1.8 Ford Focus engine and electrical issue? My mum has a 2006 Ford Focus 1.8. Suddenly over the last few days, the engine won't start and nothing electrical works, not even the central locking. Would it be the alternator or something else? We have had problems with the car before when suddenly the dials on the dashboard would stop working temporarily while driving which could be related to it as well.
- Why Does Replacing Idle Air Control Valve on 2002 Ford F150 not correct Idle issue? Got A check engine light. Code said Idle Air Contol Valve. Purchased A control valve at parts store. Replaced control valve with new one. Engine Idled up real high. Attempted driving, thought computer had to reset. Engine still idled up too high. Parts store said vehicle had to be driven for at least 20 miles for control valve to operate correctly. Drove truck 30 miles, engine started to surge. Put old control valve back in and engine does not idle high or surge but stalls out.( suggestions) ?
