Will rims designed to fit 235 tires fit 255 tires?
I soon need some new tires for my 2001 Ford Explorer, the current tires are 255/70R16 and I don't plan to change the size when i get new ones. I would like to get new rims with them. I found some that say they fit my car, but it says the rec. Tire size is for 235/70R16. I'm assuming/hoping the rims will still fit but I just want to make sure before I purchase them with the new tires.
235/70-16 is the original equipment sized tire for your Explorer that Ford determined would be best for the vehicle. You are good to go. Whoever mounted the 255/70-16 sized tire on the Explorer used an improper tire size.
We really need to know the rim size,. The tyre are 20mm wider.4/5th ".unless we know that width of rim then its only a guess
Usually the factory will put the widest tire that will safely fit on the wheel.

- Can 225/70R16 tires fit on rims that have 225/70r14 tires on them? I have 225/70r14 tires on my Ford ranger. I just got some 225/70r16 tires of the same brand, Cooper, given to me. Will they fit on the 225/70r14 rims or do I need to get rims to fit the 225/70r16.
