Anthony, no one ever told you what ford stands for? Fix or repair daily.
I learned a long time ago, that if I spend $2,000.00 per year to keep my vehicle in tip top condition, if is still cheaper than car payments and repairs. I paid $1,700.00 for front and rear brakes. But I know when I need to stop, I will stop. The year is almost over and you still have $1,400.00 to spend on your vehicle. How about some new tires for the winter?

It depends on how hard it is to get to the fuel pump and the price of the oem part. If they had to drop the tank to get to the fuel pump. How much they charge pre hour. Honestly $600 isn't that much. If I had a mechanic shop do mine it would have cost almost $900, for removing the tank shield, the tank, and getting the pump out of my tank. Instead it only costed me a little over $400 for the part.

And SUV's and 4x4 vehicles always cost more to replace fuel pumps. Keep your gas level over a 1/4 tank, try not to go any lower. Never fill your tank when the gas tanker is filling up the station, the gunk at the bottom of the storage tank will go into your tank. And it is always good to clean your injectors either by pulling them out one by one or pouring treatment into your tank. Seafoam is a great product.

I actually just looked up prices for OEM fuel pumps for Blazers, 4-Runners, Pathfinders, etc, they all tend to be around $200-$300 for an OEM fuel pump, the Explorer was $280, it's on the higher side of the spectrum, but the prices are all in the same ballpark. For most things Explorers are dirt cheap to fix.

  • Is it expensive to fix an oil leak? I have a 2007 Ford Mustang and I think I may have an oil leak. I'm also due for an oil change - am I right in assuming that I can't get an oil change until the leak is fixed?
  • Why is a brake caliper job so expensive? Ford Focus front right hand wheel brake sticking when driving caused noise and some vibration at certain speeds. Tyre place Stapeltons took it apart after the wheel didn't spin freely and said there was corrosion in there, calipers need replacing with brake fluid change. He said both front wheels would have to be done and said 575 quid straight away. They can whistle for that… Sounded like a rip-off artist. I'm trying my local family run garage instead.
  • Why are my insurance quotes so expensive now? About 3 days ago my cheapest insurance quote was £900 for my Ford Fiesta, exact same details such as the additional drivers, address etc. On confused.com. Today, I was checking the quotes again, and the cheapest quote was £1,400; why did it become so expensive compared to 3 days ago, where the quote was the cheaper with the same insurance company? Is it because it is a Saturday or something?
  • Why do Ford Explorers fishtail when swerving to avoid something on the highway? 2000 Ford Explorer with 34K miles on it, driving at night on trip came upon a tractor trailer with no taillights that the trailer brakes had locked up on and didn't see it until I got up on it and swerved to the left and the vehicle fishtailed. It was dangerous enough coming up on the unlit trailer and then to fishtail in avoiding an accident is a bit much. Need to know what can cause the fishtailing. Is it a common occurrence with Ford
