Is it expensive to fix an oil leak?
I have a 2007 Ford Mustang and I think I may have an oil leak.
I'm also due for an oil change - am I right in assuming that I can't get an oil change until the leak is fixed?
Check your oil level at all times before even driving the car because if you have no oil your gonna destroy your engine.
try checking under the car where the leak may be coming from… Could be the plug, could be headgasket there are many reasons why you would have a leak. Fix your leak then get an oil change.
add oil if your too low to bring it somewhere bfore!
An oil leak does not preclude an oil change. What you can do is ask the shop to identify the source of the leak and estimate for a repair. If the leak is minor and you keep an eye on the dipstick you can delay or avoid a repair.
No point in changing oil until the leak is found. It may be something simple like a loose oil filter. Or something terminal like blown seals.
What makes you think you have an oil leak?
An oil leak is pretty easy to spot… You get oil droplets on the street or garage ( wherever you normally park ), you get blue exhaust smoke from the tail pipe, or the oil mixes with the coolant, resulting in what looks kind of like a vanilla milkshake substance.
The other big clue is needing to add oil frequently. However the oil is disappearing, it is usually easy to spot.
No, you can get an oil change whenever you want. If the leak is severe you will want to get it fixed. It depends where the leak is coming from. Regardless, it's not expensive to fix.
Some oil leaks are due to OVERFILLING
Oil leaks can come from many places. Sometimes inexpensive. Sometimes very expensive.
You are not right in assuming that you can't get an oil change until the leak is fixed.
WHY do you think you have an oil leak?
Sometimes an oil and filter change well stop a leak. Because sometimes cheap oil well start burning off as it gets old and some time's a hard driven motor well use oil. First thing I'd due would be to tighten ( hand snug) all the valve cover bolts, they can vibrate lose causing a leak That well leak down and cover every thing with oil from the top down. Also if you can, tighten pan bolts.
It can be expensive! It depends on where the leak is at! Say if the front seal is leaking then it would cost more to fix then say the valve pan gasket!
Just take it in for an oil change, and tell the service tech you think there's a leak (I presume perhaps there's a pubble of oil in your parking space?) Possibly from the location of the puddle you can guess which side of the engine the leak is coming from, and 2 potential sources are the oil filter and drain plug, both of which would be removed and replaced as a normal part of oil change.
Oil leaks in other locations are potentially more expensive, if the oil is leaking into the engine through valve guides and burning and producing blue smoke in the exhaust, or if the oil is leaking out of the driveshaft into the transmission, which may make your clutch abnormally slippy, then you may be due for engine rebuild. It is also possible you have a problem with the oil pump. If you aren't sure how to diagnose these and other possibilities then your best bet is to hand it off to a mechanic along with whatever tech details lead you to suspect a problem.
- Oil leak ford mondeo mk3? I have a ford mondeo mk3, over the last few weeks I have had to keep on filling it up with oil. I have to add about a ltr every 100 miles. I can't see a leak and no oil patches and I have no smoke coming out the back. I'm also using alot of coolant i'm guessing cause when the oils low it gets hotter. Any ideas
- My 2000 Ford Windstar has a coolant leak. What could be causing it to leak? It has two leaks. One is from the passenger side near the front tire and the second is right below the driver's seat. I have to replace the coolant after I have had the heater on for a bit. I never have it on for more than 15 min. Not because the coolant runs out in that time but I just don't use it for long. I took it to the mechanic and he stated it was the "lower intake manifold gasket". I'm asking if anyone has any other ideas because that repair is pretty pricey.
- Ford said i have a minor oil leak and they said if i see smoke take it 2 the nearest shop. What do i do? Ford said i have a minor oil leak and they said if i see smoke take it 2 the nearest shop… What do i do?
- Power Steering Leak? Not sure how to fix? I have a 2009 Ford Focus, and one day my power steering got really tight, so I checked and it was low on fluid. So I filled it and a couple days late it was all gone. Then I found it: when I shut the engine off, all the fluid in the reservoir builds up and oozes out the cap. I'm certain I have the cap on all the way, and the o-ring looks to be in good shape. Is there anything I'm not thinking of? What are some remedies?
