Should I charge gas money? If so, how much and when?

I just got my car. It's a big black 1999 Ford Explorer. It gets 13 mpg in the city. When I first got my car, one of my friends stopped picking up one of my other friends (Sommer) because she felt like Sommer was asking Lily to take her too many places. So I told Sommer I would pick her up for school AND take her home. Well, she asks me to drive her all theses places and promises me that she'll pay me back. She did, but it was only ten dollars. If you have an SUV, you'd understand that ten dollars is like a drop of water in an ocean.

I drive a full size van with a V8 under the hood, so you know you've got better gas mileage than I do! I've got ppl that were constantly calling me for a ride here n there. I told them 'My taxi don't run on promises!', now they don't call me unless they've got the gas money! I still get calls every now n then, I usually get about two or three days notice now (used to get 15min notice) the main reason they still call me is because they KNOW they're safe when I'm driving (last wreck Nov '89) Remember it's not only your gas but it's also your 'time'

It's also wear and tear on the vehicle… Your time and gas. But if you are helping out, you can set whatever price you want. If they don't like it, they can take a cab or walk. You decide what you need to make it worth it for you.

Sounds like Sommer is gaming everyone. You just happen to be the latest victim.

Your not being mean, if you ask for gas money. It's a fact of life. As a young person, you get bits of adult life to try on. So you can understand what it's like to manage money, for example. Your friend is being a child, if she ignores the reality of gas money. Tell her to ask her mom for a ride, your not her mom, so your not expected to drive her around for free. For all you know her mom might give her money for gas, so her friends will give her rides. So mom doesn't have to drive her every where. Maybe she doesn't tell you about it, so she can keep the money for herself. Friends can be that way, it's called selfish and immature.

  • How much money should I get for the diminished value on my car? So I just bought a 2014 ford mustang v6 premium. Had a 16 year old fender bender me 3 days after I bought it. It has 400 miles on it. The estimated damage on the car is $1,600. I'm wondering what kind of money the insurance company should give me for the diminished value on the car. The damage was to the rear bumper and taillight.
  • Friend broke wing mirror. How much should I charge him? I own a 1996 ford mustang. My friend was leaning on the wing mirror and it snapped off at which point he apologized profusely. I took it to my local mechanic without telling him and they charged me $140 to fix it. We're both in high school so he obviously doesn't have a large income. How much money should I ask from him?
  • How much money should I expect to get out of a 2005 Ford Fivehundred w/o a transmission? I have this guy offering $350 as his final offer, should I sell it to him or try a junkyard/ junk car company? I want to be nice and sell to him bc he really wants it, but I also don't know if I can get more money out of my car. I mean it only has 129xxx miles and all the other parts are good besides the transmission.
