Its the wheel bearings if you hear growling when making sharp turns. Trust me I know I just had 2 bearings put cost me about 380
Pinion bearings? What are you taking about.
Most likely the growling noise is your wheel bearings or entire hub because the bearings have eaten away at the inside of the hubs.
take it to a shop and have them look at it. Most will inspect and quote for free. Les schwab will.
- Low growling sound while in park on my car? I have a 2000 Ford Taurus, 150,000 miles, when I drove home today, as I put it in park, I noticed it started to make a low growling/grinding sound. When I switched out to neutral or drive or reverse, the sound went away. I have also noticed that when I'm parked uphill (like I'm now), it is harder to switch to drive or reverse. So my question is what that growling/grinding sound could be?

We then had the same issue and shop mentioned we need to replace wheel bearing. We shopped around and went to another shop that said wheel bearing is fine, but the brake hose is kinked. The front passenger wheel bearing is bent on my 96 ford explorer but someone with a 97 ford explorer sold me one will it still fit an work? Ours is a rear wheel drive the other car is an all wheel drive please give info I don't know much about cars
