Does my 2008 ford explorer v6 have a timing belt or chain? - 1
Well, all you need to do is look at the engine. In the area where the valve cover is located at, if you look at the front part of the engine, if there's a plastic cover at the front where the valve covers are at. Then it is a timing belt. If there's no round plastic cover on the front of the engine where the valve covers are at, and it is all metal. Then it has a timing chain. And just so yo don't get confuse, the front of the engine is the side where the belts are at.
Most V engines have a timing chain unless they have overhead cams.
The 3.8 has a timing chain.
The 4.0 SOHC has 3 chains and they are expensive to replace, the engine has to be pulled.
- How much does it cost to get timing chain done? Recently we bought a car 08 ford crown victoria at a car auction. It had a blown head gasket and we had a friend fix it for us, he put it all together and now car won't start. He thinks he did the timing chain wrong. Was wondering how much it would cost to take it to an actual mechanic to redo the timing chain. Also he thinks one of the heads are bad so how much would that cost as well?

- Is 2600 dollars a fair price in ford for a broken rear timing chain cassette on a 2006 explorer? I took my explorer to ford and they diagnosed that the noice I been asking about is coming from a the rear timing chain cassette. So they have to pull the motor out and service the broken cassette. My problem is I'm getting charged 600 bucks for parts and I found in ford parts the timing chain kit is only 255.33 plus tax I know a couple of gaskets need to be put on but I have doubts that is 600 dollars worth in parts
