Are ford explorers worth it?
Hi guys I'm thinking about purchasing a used 1997 ford explorer limited for my daughters birthday, she's turning 18 in a week and I thought I'd get her a used car for her birthday. It has about 140,000 miles on it and it's priced at 3300 at a car dealership? Is it worth buying this? Has anyone ever had any troubles with this car or any troubles with ford when they went to go get their car fixed? Any input would be great, thanks!
I've owned one before back in 2002. Same year as the one your looking at now. I bought with 80k miles. So many things went wrong with it that I had to dump it after the engine blew in 2003. With 98k. And I've kept up with services. It's not a very reliable car and can be a money pit. I can only imagine. Buying that model year now. 3300 is too much. I wouldn't by another. And I wouldn't pay over 500 for it lol. I agree with rick.
That is almost 20 years old. And 140,000 on a Ford?
I would not put my daughter in that vehicle. I'd buy her a safe well maintained 2 or 3 year old vehicle.
Go look at edmunds. Com. And appraise that car. That car is only worth about $1300.
Also it gets terrible MPG! Your kid needs a car that gets GREAT Mpg. Not a 97 explorer. Keep looking, no way $3300 for that old ford.
Safety is first
- How much is a stock all original 1969 ford f100 worth? Its all original with a 360 V8, three speed on the tree manual transmission, 2 barrel carb. I mean nothing has been changed besides the gas and oil. The color is faded blue, there's no rust in the cab or in the bed. A little surface rust but no holes.
- How much is my 1976 Ford F-150 Custom worth? It has a 360 Ford FE Big Block Motor and 76 was the last year for that motor, along with an original motorcraft 2 bbl carb. It has 50,000 miles on it. Mostly all original except the tail gate has patch work done to it, it has new floor pans and cab corners. Everything else is original and in good running shape. I just want to know how much it's worth.
- Why do Ford Explorers fishtail when swerving to avoid something on the highway? 2000 Ford Explorer with 34K miles on it, driving at night on trip came upon a tractor trailer with no taillights that the trailer brakes had locked up on and didn't see it until I got up on it and swerved to the left and the vehicle fishtailed. It was dangerous enough coming up on the unlit trailer and then to fishtail in avoiding an accident is a bit much. Need to know what can cause the fishtailing. Is it a common occurrence with Ford
- What's wrong with ford explorers? I keep hearing bad things about ford explorers and fords in general why don't people like explorers? Are they dangerous or something?
