2004 Ford Explorer XLT Limp Mode indicator comes on intermittently? What is the cause, and the fix?

Mr. Rich, are you the owner or a mechanic? I must presume a kid with a new set of wheels. Unfortunately, you elect to grab the smartphone and text to us compared to speaking with parents, adults family members or local mechanics. The worse part, Mr. Rich, is that you have never been informed that THE first resource, THE first thought as to this vehicle needs to send you looking for the owner's manual. The owner's manual is the set of instructions and source of data as to service schedule, supplies, tire pressure, fuses, etc. It is THE dictionary and encyclopedia, the data base, etc. All cars have this manual. If per chance this is not with the vehicle, by using Google, you can located the PDF file and download the manual. The "Limp Mode" is fully explained. Since the cause can be two dozen things, more or less, you can't do much about it except what is expected of the owner of the vehicle, to find a mechanic. There's nothing to be achieved by asking as to the "fix" as to cars. As the owner you can replace a flat tire but not repair the tire. Perhaps you can replace the air filter or a light bulb or replace a blown fuse. Beyond that? Not much. Read the manual and find an auto repair shop. Expect the worse as to repairs as the Limp Mode is serious. Or, it might be a sensor issue since you do not report issues with the vehicle. No matter. Go find a mechanic.
