2003 ford explorer makes a click when starting but won't start engine? - 1

First guess… Flat battery

Big Fords are famous for corroding the INSIDE of the positive (red wire) battery cable clamp. Pull that clamp off of the battery post & scrape BOTH the inside of the clamp & the sides of the post with a small pocket knife. If that helps, most all car parts stores carry a small wire brush designed just for that task. Also, around that time Ford experimented with a light weight 'sheet metal' battery cable clamp, instead of the old fashioned 'lump-of-lead' clamps. They didn't work. If your truck has those light-weight clamps, you'll have to get them replaced with the old fashioned 'lump-of-lead' clamps.

  • Car won't start, power works and makes a single click noise? I have a 93 ford Taurus. When I try to start my car, it was just making a single click noise and then would eventually start after I tried a couple more times. The other day it wouldn't start, still made the single click noise, I tried a couple more times and now it doesn't make the noise at all. The power works, my headlights don't dim or anything like that. I've had my car jumped and that still didn't work so I'm curious as to what it could be?
  • Ford Focus 2008 1.6 Engine Lights Flashing/Blinking. Engine shakes when starting up and idle as well. Had smoke coming out yesterday? So yesterday when I was driving my ford focus 08 and stopped at a light, the exhaust started smoking. When I revved more it smoked more, but it was also smoking on idle a little. The CEL check engine lights are blinking slowly when I start up the car. What could this be? I was thinking spark plugs and/or ignition cables.
  • Car cuts out whilst starting a couple times and also because if being revved fully after starting? So yeah, it does that from starting cold i think. It has been suggested that its my Idle air control valve but i've cleaned that out and it still does it. Also replaced spark plugs. Its a Ford Fiesta 1998. However, it idles fine as soon as I've moved the car. So even when stopped it is fine as long as i have driven it since start up. The issues only happen on start up. Any ideas?
