1997 Ford Explorer Transmission vs 1999?
My 1997 Ford Explorer sport has been having problems with the transmission. I have a 1999 Ford Explorer that is no longer drivable, but still has a working transmission. I was wondering if the two are interchangeable (by a good mechanic, of course)?
No two different transmissions used in 97 a 5R55E and 99 a 5R55W can't interchange those transmissions
- Where can I buy a transmission range sensor for a 1999 Ford Contour? I need a new transmission range sensor for my 1999 Ford Contour 2.0L 4cyl automatic but I can't seem to find them anywhere. I really don't want to take it into the shop and pay over $100 for it when I can buy it and replace it myself. If you could please paste links that have it or stores that have that brand please let me know. It would be such a simple fix if I was actually able to find one.
- Which car is the overall to keep for a couple of yrs? 1999 Nissan maxima, 1999 Altima, 2006 ford Taurus or 2002 buick lesabre? All of them have low mileage as the Taurus have 69000 and the maxima have the highest of 123000. They all under 1100 bucks.
- Transmission harsh engagement (1997 Ford Taurus GL)? When I shift from park to reverse or drive and even when i put it in park it engages very harshly. What could be the problem? Please recommend a fix.
- Transmission fluid change or flush or both (1997 Ford Taurus GL)? I just got a 1997 Ford Taurus GL with over 133000 miles. The car is in pretty good shape but when I shift gears it shifts kind of hard. I have no idea if the trans has ever been serviced but my guess is that it need to be. Would you recommend just draining the pan, changing the filter and gasket and replenishing the fluid or should I do a flush? Not a power flush. Just using an extension hose to drain the old fluid and add new fluid. Or do you recommend both? If so, in what order?
