Vehicle bearings keep breaking?
On my 1998 Ford expedition the front driver's side wheel bearings keep breaking. I have replaced them twice to no avail what could cause this? The only thing I can think of is that the dust cap is loose and grease is leaking out but I'm not sure if this would cause bearing failure.

You may not be greasing them properly. http://www.knowyourparts.com/technical-articles/properly-grease-a-bearing-by-hand/
Did you OVER-TIGHTEN them? Did you over-pack them with grease? Did you use a poor-quality bearing on them, twice? Have a good garage do the job, and if it happens again you have someone to shout at.
There's a "Inner Bearing" and a "Outer" because of the taper. You didn't put them on wrong did you? Large castle nut gets torqued down to specs, spin tire, back off nut to the next available slot for cotter pin. Old style bearing should last about the life of the vehicle. New hub style, not so much.
Something ain't right here. Have you replaced the race's that are pressed into the hub too? If not, you should. Also, those race's should fit tight in the hub & shouldn't move in any way. Clean them both up and try & move and spin them with your fingers. They should be rock solid.
But really, since you've done this 2 times already, get a new hub & rotor, which should have the inner race's installed already, both new outer bearings, a new seal, and be done with it. If the brakes are 50% or less, do both sides. Pack the bearings with good grease, don't over-tighten them, then enjoy the rest of the day.
Are you setting to much preload on the bearing ARE YOU PACKING THE GREASE PROPERLY BEFORE INSTALL look at both failed units are they discolored by heat and are they dry inside the cage and is the spindal or bearing race in the hub damaged these are what i would look closely at myself
- Why do I have to replace bearings on a ford freestyle so much? Just replaced rear bearings on both back tires last yr. Its making the bearing sign noise, why do they go thru so many beaings
- Suspension creaking/moaning over bumps or breaking at low speeds? My 2004 Ford falcon has a bad moaning/creaking sound come from the front left of the car when going over small bumps or breaking what could this be?
- Is a face lift for a vehicle a new generation for a vehicle? I heard that in 1989 Ford Ranger received a facelift but was a new generation or just a minor update that did not change the complete model of the vehicle?
- Is it cheaper to keep a vehicle until you run it into the ground or to buy a new one every 2-5 years? I bought my used 2003 Ford Focus back in 2006. Owned until 2014. I started having to take it to the shop more often than I could afford. So I bought a newer Subaru Forester which I hope to keep for a good 10 years or more. I noticed that a lot of people buy new vehicles every few years. Is it so they don't have to worry about the cost of repairs you would have with keeping an aging car? Or is buying a new car every 10 or 15 years better?
