I have a 2001 Ford expedition that stopped running after it was towed?

Hello this question goes out to anyone who knows what tow companys do to AWD VEHICLES WHEN THEY TOW THEM. THE STORY IS I WAS OUT OF THE COUNTRY FOR A WHILE AND LEFT MY 2001 AWD Ford expedition in the care of my brother. He informed me a while later that he parked illegally and the vehicle was impounded and he couldnt locate it.Anyway I finally came back and found my vehicle, Aside from the windshield being broken. The car started just fine but it won't move at all. The car accelerates but it won't work in anygear it won't even go into neutral. MY QUESTION IS IF BASED ON WHAT I DESCRIBED DO YOU THINK OR NOW OF TOW COMPANYS DISCONNECTING SOMETHING FROM AWD VEHICLES IN ORDER TO TOW THEM OR DID THEY MESS UP THE TRANSMISDION BY A BAD TOW. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS WRONG WITH MY CAR?

And yes I'm planning on getting it checked out but I was out on the country for a while and it was a huge fing bill to get it out of impound.

They may have dropped the drive shaft.

Tow companies, nowadays, use flat-bed trucks and 50klb winches. They dragged it on the truck and hauled it off. They aint damage it at all, unless it had a pre-existing condition - It's like if you put your parking brake on and slid down a hill.

Also, i suppose a silly guy.okay so listen.

Your PRNDL (the gearshift.) is just a rod. It goes down to another rod on the transmission. If you disconnect the two rods (usually they're just connected with a cotterpin) you can shift the transmission - You see, the locking mechanism exists within the steering column… So without a key, you'd need to disconnect the PRNDL from the transmission to shift the transmission into neutral.

It looks like a bad main pressure solenoid or worse a bad TCM. Pretty normal on Fords of that vintage. Get the codes read before you go ballistic.

You can sue if you want but you better get a very good lawyer. Tow companies have very good ones. And they know the drill.

Check to see if there's ATF on the transmission dipstick with the motor running. An ATF cooler line may have been broken.

  • I have a 2001 ford ranger with 3.0 and i was off roading when i the truck just shutoff.i stopped it and turned the key no crank at all? I have a 2001 ford ranger with 3.0 and i was off roading when i the truck just shutoff. I stopped it and turned the key no crank at all?
  • My neighbor towed my car with his truck. Is that legal? I live in a town home complex and I parked in the visitors parking lot for a couple of hours and my neighbor decided to take out his black monster truck and tow my car himself. Is that legal? The truck is a typical black ford monster truck. Any info would be greatly appreciated. It just doesn't seem right, can any civilian use their truck as a towing service?
  • Truck stopped accelerating then stopped? I was going 40 then I noticed the mph was going down. So I pressed the gas down and it didn't do anything. I'm guessing the engine died because I pulled over and turned the truck off, then tried turning it back on and it didn't. It makes the noise it makes when your truck is just out of battery. It sounds like it's gonna turn on but it doesn't. What could be wrong with it? I drive a Ford (that's what's wrong with it lol) expedition
  • How to remove broken and rusted running board brackets from a ford expedition? Took off on a dirt road in my expedition and slid into a tree. I knocked off my drivers side mirror and the drivers side running board. The brackets for the running board are rusted and now twisted with the frame. I have tried relentlessly to remove them but can't. If anybody has any ideas on how to do this it would be greatly appreciated. Also need to be able to put on new brackets after removal.
