Should I be concerned about a valve seat failure in soon-to be mine 2000 Ford Escort SPI?

I'm getting a 2000 Ford Escort LX 2.0 SPI in August. And I've heard lots of horror stories about the valve seat failing. It was 135,000K on it, and from the few months I've been around it, it has been well maintained and has not had many issues. It does not even vibrate terribly as I've heard these engines do.

So how concerned should I really be about a valve seat failure?

You seem to have a right to be concerned

DON'T get the SOHC motor. That's the one that has the valve seat issue. The DOHC motor from the ZX3 and ZX5 don't have the valve seat issue, only the single cam 2.0L.

I had a 2001 Ford Focus LX with the SOHC 2.0L and it happened to me at 140,000 mile roughly. I drove it home, parked it, and when I started it the next day it sounded like quarters or washers were bouncing around in the cylinder. There are So MANY videos on YouTube that address this issue, but if you can, just stay away from the SOHC motor. The DOHC 2.0L motor is bulletproof!
