1999 Ford Escort Driving Cycle?

Recently, I had to replace the battery in my car. Then I went in for state inspection and the car failed. The tech said that I needed to drive my car 100 miles. I went online and started to read about driving cycles. Legally, one thing I can't do is get on the freeway. Would this make a difference in my preparation for the next inspection? Do I really need to drive 100 miles?

Note the required conditions, especially temperature.

If you drive NORMALLY for 100 miles, it will most likely set all the required monitors.

Note: MOST shops have a battery that plugs into the diagnostic port to prevent the OBDII system from resetting while you change the battery.

I would take it to a nnechanic and let thenn help you with it

You need to drive it far enough for the computer to reset. That could be 25 miles or 225 miles, whatever it takes. If you can't drive on the freeway, then you should at least drive someplace where you can get up to 55 miles an hour a few times so the ECU can properly remap the system. Through the normal speed range.

Why can't you "legally" drive on the expressway?
Do a search for "completing readiness tests" and you should be able to drive with in 20 minutes to complete the tests that must be completed to pass the emission test.
