Trouble starting my vehicle?

Ok so the vehicle I'm driving is a 2001 Ford Escape XLT V6 and it's having some trouble starting. It starts and it runs but it takes a second or two to start. When I turn the key in the ignition it just goes "DA DA DA DA DA" then it starts up. What's the problem? Does it need a new starter? I'm no mechanic I'm just a stupid, broke 17 year old kid trying to keep my car running so I can get to school and work lol. BTW, I can't afford a $2500 visit to the mechanics for them to "fix" it. I'd rather fix it myself so any real help and advice is appreciated, thanks!

Then start by removing the battery terminals and cleaning the insides with a wire brush made for the job. Clean the battery posts also and tighten the bolts tight. The tool is available at auto parts stores and please note if you keep starting like this it will cause more damage costing your poor savings account to have withdraw.

Ok you can tap your starter with a hammer a few times and it will go for a little while longer. Long enough for you to find a cheap starter.

Test the battery first to see if its in good shape. If its low on charge because its on the way out, that can cause slow cranking.Use a multimeter, hold the positive probe on the positive battery post and the negative probe on the negative battery post.Voltage should read 12.6 volts or higher if the battery is fully charged. If voltage is lower than 12.4 volts, the battery may need charging or it may have a dead cell.Autozone can test it for free. With the vehicle running, voltage should read 13.8-14.2 volts. If not, the battery may need charging, replacement, or the alternator might not be working correctly.Test cranking voltage.Disable the ignition, connect the probes to the battery posts, let someone crank the starter.Voltage should read 9.6 volts or higher while cranking.9.6 volts is the low limit for this test with a outside temp of 70°. As temp goes down, this number decreases. So go by the table below.
70°=9.6
60°=9.5
50°=9.4
40°=9.3
30°=9.1
20°=8.9
10°=8.7

  • Is a face lift for a vehicle a new generation for a vehicle? I heard that in 1989 Ford Ranger received a facelift but was a new generation or just a minor update that did not change the complete model of the vehicle?
  • Car cuts out whilst starting a couple times and also because if being revved fully after starting? So yeah, it does that from starting cold i think. It has been suggested that its my Idle air control valve but i've cleaned that out and it still does it. Also replaced spark plugs. Its a Ford Fiesta 1998. However, it idles fine as soon as I've moved the car. So even when stopped it is fine as long as i have driven it since start up. The issues only happen on start up. Any ideas?

  • Help car trouble car just stopped while I was driving. Please give input? I have a Ford Explorer 2003. I haven't had any issues until today.Although I notice that there was some fuses out or a possible electrical issue. I was driving and went to turn the corner and my car just shut off. I couldn't believe it.It was if I didn't have gas, but in reality I had more than half a tank. I was able to pull it over and start it back up. What do you think is going on. I'm afraid to drive it.
