Steps when involved in accident but learn a recall caused it?

I bought a used vehicle in March 2014. I was driving last month, approaching an intersection (at 25mph or less) to make a right hand turn, there was a car ahead turning too so I depressed my brake but after slowing slightly my pedal went to the floor, I felt a light thudding under the pedal (almost like a pop) 2x, saw my ABS light come on (I was so rattled I don't know if it stayed on more than a few seconds or if it flashed 2x which is what I honestly think I saw) and I hit the back of the car in front of me. I know that my vehicle had over 2000$ repairs in Jan/Feb but the seller kept the receipts for tax purposes so I'm unsure how to obtain the records. I also now received a recall notice stating
FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2001-2002 ESCAPE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 22, 1999, THROUGH JULY 19, 2002, EQUIPPED WITH A BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR CAP THAT COULD LEAK BRAKE FLUID. IF BRAKE FLUID LEAKS FROM THE CAP, IT COULD COME IN CONTACT WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR. CORROSION CAN DEVELOP IN THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR LEADING TO MELTING, SMOKE OR A FIRE.

Added (1). I started looking online to see if what I experienced could have been caused by the master cylinder abs recall and it seems very likely according to most mechanical information.
Should I go to a mechanic, explain the situation, & ask that they inspect and give an opinion as to whether the defect is to blame then go to FORD?
Should I tell the insurance company first, FORD first, or?
I really do not want to take the wrong steps and getting the short end of the stick… Thank you!

Tell your insurance company about the notice you received they can help you out.

  • Should I learn to drive with a Ford Taurus or Honda Odyssey or it doesn't matter? I've asked this question before, but I made a mistake when it came to the cars. I took 4 hours of driving instruction driving a Ford Taurus, but I was just curious if I should buy more hours or just train with my dad with has a Honda Odyssey. I'm in my 30s, so I'm looking for mature answers. Would it be hard to learn on a larger sized vehicle? I drove it once, and it seemed all right. Any advice is appreciated. TIA
  • I want to learn how to make car body's out of mold? I want to learn how kit car body's are made for the classic Ford GT40's and other classic cars kit cars, what is a great learns guide for this or building car body's in general.
  • How to learn how to build an engine from the ground up? I'm 17. I also have the resources and all too. But I just want to build a fast engine. Maybe a ford racing or something like that. Is there a way I can find out what parts and the instructions i need and just order all of that off the internet or something? You will probably tell me to take a mechanics class but I'm planning on doing that next school year. I appreciate your answers in advance!
  • Did you learn anything from the Kavanaugh vs Ford hearings? Were you paying attention when the "Boys will be boys" excuse was shot down? Did you learn we're all responsible for our own actions?
