Painting a car with Rustoleum spray paint?
So I have a question about painting a car with simple rustoleum spray paint. First, let me just say that the car I'm working on is a 2001 Ford Escape XLT V6. It was my mom's old car, she got a new one so she handed this one over to me. It is over 200,000 miles, multiple problems in the engine/tranny and if I'm lucky I'll get another 20,000 miles out of it before it gives out. The reason I'm telling you that is because I'm not looking into spending a whole boat load of money because the car is not worth it. I'm just a dumb 17 year old kid with a car that I want to trip out a bit and have some fun with it before it gives out. I want to make it like a zombie mobile kind of like in the pick. I want flat colors, so no clear coat. My dad is in construction so he already has every piece of sand paper there's and painters tape, etc. Here are my questions:
1.) Should I use just regular Rustoleum spray paint, or Rustoleum auto spray paint?
2.) Should I sand the entire car before actually spaying it? If so, what grit do I need?
3.) How many coats?
4.) Should I put a Rustoleum Primer on?
5.) I live in FL, will the paint be fine in the rain and all that after if cures?
I'm sure I have more questions about it but I can't think of them right now, so if someone could please give me as much info as you can that would be AWESOME! Again, I'm NOT looking into spending a few hundred dollars here, just a few bucks here and there for the paints and/or primer. Please and thank you!
Use a rough grain of sand paper first to get the previous paint off then a lighter grain. Use two to three thin layers of primer then I'd recommend going to paint store and getting your own can of spray paint made you can generally give them you car year and model and get matching paint but in you case find a color you like and tell them to match it. After your primer has dried 3-6 hours do two medium layers to many layers and the paint will crack and will look dumb if not meant to be done on purpose… Also I'd recommend taking the panel your painting off… Let it it dry and use protector not clear coat on flat/matte
- Should i use primer when painting a gray bumper trim? I recently bough "rust-oleum trim and bumper paint" to paint the trim on my bumper. The trik on my bumper is like a dull gray color. Should I use black primer on it or should i just spray the pain on? I heard it peels without the primer and i want a dee black look to match my truck. (2005 ford ranger xlt)
- Painting my chrome bumper black? I have a 2005 ford ranger XLT the bumper in the front is chrome and there's a chrome piece in the back as well. I used "rust-oleum bumper paint" to paint the trim of the truck and it is really really good and a nice deep black. I want the same thing on the chrome. Can you walk me through the steps of what id need to get to do it? I want it a similar color to my truck ( glossy black ) i'm blacking the truck out.
- Punk hit my car. How to touch-up paint? While in the gym, someone hit my white bumper, leaving chipped paint, exposing the black metal underneath the paint. Getting the paint repaired will cost me $600. Being a college kid, I don't have the funds. Is there a cheaper alternative to paint my car white again? Edit: It is a 2014 Ford Mustang.
- Could I use spray paint to paint my car a different color? I currently have a red 2015 ford Mustang, but I want to paint it black and add a few designs to it. Could i pull this off with regular spray paint or is there a certain kind i must use?
