At a guess, the transmission.
Hi so driving around in a now 17 years old truck designed to last 8 years. And you expect miracles.
Start with the basics… Check the transmission fluid level.
If fluid is full then internal transmission problem. We have a 01 escape one in the shop now with the same problem. Find local shop at ATRA.COM for more help
Get it towed to a transmission shop. The transmission is likely shot. It could be time for a new or newer vehicle.
You need a rebuilt transmission. Guess you didn't change the ATF and ATF filter every 60,000 miles!

- What causes a car to jump in reverse when all forward gears are fine? I once owned a 1967 Ford Mustang (sure wish I still had it!) with a 289 ci w/2 bbl and factory 3 speed on the floor. I bought it used with 100k miles. It acted fine in forward gears but when I put it in reverse, It "jumped" as long as I was moving. I changed out the clutch and pressure plate twice but it didn't help. Could it have been that the fly wheel needed balancing (by grinding) or something else?
