Is this possible to copy my car key?

Do you think I'd be able to copy the car key for my 2005 Ford Escape?
There are 2 sets of keys already, and one of them is my mom's and the spare, and she doesn't like me carrying the spare around. So I want to make my own copy.

Do you think it would be possible? If so, could I just get it done at Canadian Tire or something?

Yes it is

Yea but they use a smart key so the copy will cost 50 dollars.

Yes you can have a copy made, but it will be expensive because of the type of key it is.

Sure you can; unless it has an attached key fob (that would have to be programmed at the dealership and costs a lot of money) BUT you could get a "chauffer's key" which is a copy of the key itself that only unlocks the doors but does not start the car. You can have that done where ever they cut keys - Walmart, hardware store, etc.

No. You can't copy car keys. There's a sensor in the key, so just copying the shape of the key won't help. You'd have to have the sensor too.

You need to have all the keys with you when making a copy as the newer vehicles have security chips in them. This would most likely have to be done at a Ford Dealership and would probably cost somewhere around $50-$60. If you just had a plain copy made of it, once you turn the key forward, it would lock your engine's computer and you would have to call Ford to fix it anyway! It is an anti theft device.
