Is it possible to add hill assist? (Hill start)?

I have a Ford Escape (2005) with a manual transmission. I'm new to driving a stick shift and for the heck of it I was wondering if it was possible to add hill assist to a car or if it was something that had to come with the car. Also, would it be costly?

If your handbrake is by the drivers seat it may be helpful to push in the button to it (keep it pressed) pull it it and slowly lower it back down as you work the clutch and throttle to take off. I've been driving a stick for over 17 years and sometimes I still use this technique on hills.

  • Drove over hill too fast and car is making a thumping noise? I have a 2003 ford focus. Today I was driving and went to make a turn fast and went up a hill and it hit my car and made a loud noise. When pulled up my car started making a thumping noise I thought that it was the tire but when I popped the good and accelerated while in drive the engine was moving up it's still running fine but moving and making a thump when accelerating. What could be wrong with it please help.
