Exhaust Hangers Broken?

My vehicle failed state inspection today because my exhaust hangers are broken. The dealership estimated $1700 to get this fixed. I know dealership prices are normally a lot higher but how much lower is this cost realistically going to get? Is it just time to get a new car? I drive a 2010 Ford Escape and just hit 100,000 miles.

Should be able to go to a muffler shop and get new hangers welded on at minimal cost IF the hanger metal is rusted off or broken. If it's just the dang isolators then it's something you should be able to order up and do yourself. The rubber isolators are like $7 each at AutoZone. Worst case is you can use plumber tape and create new support hangers. Yeah, maybe what dealer quoted was a system replacement; if it was just hangers I'd tell them to pound sand and tell all my friends how bad of a place they are to deal with.
Get some help from someone even remotely mechanically inclined if you aren't and put the car up on jack stands and look under it to see what the fix is, again worst case to me is paying a muffler shop to do the work for next to nothing.

Sounds like the dealer wants to replace about 100 of them. If it is just the hangers, you can do a LOT better elsewhere.

$1700 for exhaust hangers? Run, don't walk from them.

Go to a muffler shop and have them fixed and I'd be very surprised if it came to more than $50. There must be much more wrong for Ford to quote $1700.

That is crazy expensive. Stop by any stupid muffler shop and have them look at it an make an estimate. The same thing happened to me, they put a couple of hangers on and waived me off at no cost.

Wow, that's a lot. Never get work done at the dealership unless you don't care how much it costs. Find a good, honest mechanic.

Exhaust hangers are those bits of bent steel rod? Get a bloke in a fabrication shop to make up a set and weld them up for a carton (of beer)

$1700?!

That's about $1650 too much!

Go see a muffler shop.
Make it understood that their repair must allow the car to pass the test.

There are usually 2 hangers or possibly 3, so perhaps $75 to $100 should get the job done.

An exhaust hangar is a $10 item at any auto parts store. $1700 would buy a complete new exhaust system! Take your car to a different shop. This one is ripping you off!

Goto an exhaust shop you don't take a 9 year old car to a dealer. If you can afford a dealer get a new car.

  • Why is my van door broken? Went to the grocery store everything was fine. When i came out the dash said a door was open when i opened my passanger door to make sure it was closed all the way the light shut off, then when i closed it again the light turned back on. • Which exhaust/exhaust system would work best for my car? I own a 1970 Ford Torino (Brougham) with a 351 Cleveland engine running on stock exhaust. I want to upgrade the exhaust (I'm thinking Flowmaster) but like, does the whole exhaust system need to be done, or like half? I need your help making my baby roar lol. Please give me your best suggestions and approximate cost.
  • How to get a dental pick that is broken off out of my car ignition? My mom needs help… Somehow her great grandson stuck a dental floss pick in her older Ford Taurus car ignition… When she tried to remove it, it broke off! She said she's tried everything you can imagine to get it out and it won't come out… Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
  • Is this normal or is my ford ranger fuel gauge stuck/broken? I recently purchased a 2007 ford ranger, and i do not know much of how its fuel gauge works yet. I filled it up for the first time a couple days ago and drove it about 35 miles since, and the fuel gauge still shows full. The gauge shows empty when i turn off the truck and then upon starting it up returns tot he full position like normal. Is this normal for ford rangers, or otherwise what could be wrong? Also what would be the range on a full tank for this type of truck?
