My car fuse caught on fire, and burned some of my battery

So long story short, I drive an 2009 Ford Escape. I have been having ignition troubles lately, but I've thought nothing of it.

Anyway, tonight I went to start my car and a small fire started under my hood. I immediately screamed for my boyfriend to come and help, and luckily with a hose we were able to put it out quickly.

He said what was burning was the fuse box, and the battery looks like part of it was burned as well. I called my dealer, and a tow truck will be here in the morning.

Question is… Will my car be salvageable salvageable? I'm guessing repairs are going to cost quite a lot… Anyone have an idea?

Bin it

You'll have to get a repair estimate and see…

You made a big mistake but it's not too late, go out there tonight, pour some gas under the hood and light it back on fire. Wait a few minutes and then call 911. In the morning call your insurance company and tell them what happened earlier in the day and oh jeez, must not have got all the hot spots and it started again.

How can anyone know without looking at it? My crystal ball is down for software upgrades.

If it damaged the wiring harness that connects the fuse box to everything else, it will cost a lot. Something in the fuse box fell apart and created a major short.
Next time, don't ignore problems until they start a fire.

I've never seen a fuse box cause a fire in the 35 years I've worked on cars. Did someone hook an amp up to the battery with out installing an inline fuse?

My electrical fire was easily fixed.
