What's wrong with my truck?

I have a ford f-250 diesel and I always have to spray it with ether before I can start it. What could be wrong with it? Or what could I use something more safe than ether?

Are the glow-plugs working? WD-40 will work, and MUCH less volatile than ether.

The glow plugs may just be the issue. The relay may have failed.

Diesels are fussy when it comes to fuel quality and fuel filters. If it was winter time I would have the opinion that the diesel fuel lines and filters had plugged. Since it's not winter, I'd check the glow plugs and fuel quality. Instead of using an adhoc spray, I'd suggest a fuel additive that that is designed for it.

  • Wrong sparkplug put in truck? I have a 93 ford ranger, for some reason thought it was a 97. Put sparkplugs in for a 97, not sure if that's bad or if the sparkplugs for the two years are pretty much the same. Been driving it around fine, just don't wanna do damage to it.
  • What's wrong with the truck? I went for a ride with my grandfather yesterday. He told me to drive on the way back. I've driven this truck a lot so I know how it feels and drives. The first thing I noticed was that the steering was loose and shaky feeling (wheel moves with bumps). It's usually tight and very responsive. I also noticed the brake pedal felt kind of squishy instead of firm. What's wrong with this truck? It's a 2000 Ford Ranger 4WD.
  • What do you think is wrong with my truck? I've a 2000 Ford Ranger and today for the first time it gave me trouble starting up. I had to crank it like three times before it actually started. The check engine light is on but I put coolant(and water) in it yesterday so it's not the coolant
