No electrical power. Nothing?
Its a 1979 Ford F250 460. Heres the scenario 2 days ago i parked it running great, now today I go to turn it over and nothing no headlights, hazards horn radio nothing. I cleaned the terminal just in case and a jumpstart from my brother but there's still no power, I've already changed the solenoid a week ago. Could an ignition switch just go out like that. I don't know do you have any ideas… Keep in mined its a 79 not a 2014 lol.
You cleaned the cable, but what about the other cable?
Does it have the water it needs in the cells?
I think it went dead for one of two reasons, it self discharged.
O it was discharged by a component in the vehicle.
The starter relay on the fender gets its power from the clutch switch or the jumper in its place.
That power comes from neutral/start circuit. The ignition switch sends it to neutral/start.
Those are not fruit flies! You have a dead banana
Your headlights should work without the ignition switch! Check for corrode on the battery cables and the battery posts! Also it could be the starter! The starter is where the hot cable runs to and if it, s shorting out you won, t have anything!
Far more likely you've got a cable corrosion issue. Clean all the ground connections first. Fall and Spring are best times for this to happen due to large changes in day and night temps causing expansion and contraction in connections.
Ignition switch has nothing to do with the headlights. The lights will work so long as the battery, cables and light switch are good. Sounds to me like a dead battery or corroded connection somewhere along the line.
