My gas guage doesn't work on my 1972 ford f250?

We took the dashboard apart already and everything seems good

I would suspect your sender unit in the fuel tank. It a variable resistor, so when you take it out to test just need a multi-meter, it would give different resistance, smoothly through the motion of travel

Did you check fuses? How abt the rheostat / float in the tank? How abt the wiring? Are you getting voltage to and from?

There's a wire on top of the tank that goes to the dash. As a '72, this could be rotted off, OR it could have just come loose. These old Fords are really easy to work on. You can feel the wire without dropping the tank. If it HAD been working and suddenly isn't, it's not likely to be internal to the tank. More likely the wiring. My gas guage doesn t work on my 1972 ford f250 - 1

If you have power at the sending unit, disconnect it. Have someone turn key on while you ground this wire for only a second. The gauge should show full, if not, gauge is bad. Sometimes this will correct the problem.
