Why is the temperature guage in my 2000 ford contour going to hot? I have changed the thermostat?
It runs with perfection while the reservoir cap is off but as soon as i replace the cap it starts to run hot again. The engine stays cool even when the gauge reads ho
It may be that the temperature sensor is defective, as the pressure builds when you close the reservoir cap it could effect the sensors resistance, this should normally only happen with a temperature change, you can test this by talking a reading with an ohm meter at 68 degrees F it should be between 35K and 40K ohm, at 212 degrees F it should be between 1.9K to 2.5K ohm.
Check to make sure that coolant is circulating (both sides of the radistor are hot) and that the radiator cooling fan is cycling on and off. If not, turn the A/C on, the A/C side of the fan should run all the time when the compressor is engaged.
- Why isn't my temperature gauge going up? I have a 2004 ford ranger 2.3. Its 48 degrees right now in texas and its raining. I cranked my truck and it died 10 seconds later. I cranked it 2 more times and it would die as soon as it turned on. I tried a fourth time and it turned. The truck has been on for 45 minutes and the temperature gauge hasn't moved at all. The heater is working fine though and the truck isn't making any weird noises or smells. What could be the problem?
- How to tell if you have good oil pressure without a guage? My guage will not work for nothing. I have changed the oil pressure sensor and still nothing… Anyways, the engine purrs like a kitten when engine temp is cool… When it gets warm however, it starts ticking/tapping and develops a miss. I wanted to check the oil pressure when it warmed up to see what it was running… However, I don't know how without a guage. Any ideas? Its a 2000 ford ranger 4wd with a 4.0L V6.
- Have 98 Ford Ranger, 4.0, 171,000 miles, auto trans with limited slip. I've owned truck since new and have changed trans fluid every 30-35 000 miles and have never towed anything. The majority of the 171,000 miles are interstate driving. The truck shifts fine with no jerking or slippage. What I do get is thump(s) in rear end when I come to a stop, as gears are downshifting. Do I need a new transmission? Any suggestions? I suppose it's a "clunk" I hear and feel when I come to a stop, not a thump.
- Can a bad thermostat in a car cause the tempature guage in the dash to not work? Or is the guage itself broke? I have a 1991 Ford ranger and have no idea if the engine is overheating because the gauge doesn't work. Thermostat or gauge? Of its the gauge do I have to replace the whole cluster?
