Is it necessary to replace the head studs on a 2004 Ford 6.0?

I'm looking at buying a 2004 F250 with the 6.0 diesel. The guys says that the heads are not studded. Is that a bad thing? Do you have to replace the head studs? And if you do, do you have to replace the head gasket as well, or could you just replace the bolts/studs.

The 6.0 liter Ford Diesel has two major known problems. One is that the head bolts can stretch, requiring replacement and the other is with the EGR system which can fail and cause all kinds of problems, including stretched head bolts.

There are many Ford Diesel forums online. Look through their message boards to learn more about the 6.0. It can be a good engine, but it needs some help along the way.

Hi these days cylinder heads are help down with head bolts Which STRETCH when torqued down correcty.
so when a cylinder head is removed new bolts must be fitted as the old bolts are now useless.
if you where to use them again the chances are they would snap the worst job is trying to remove a snapped off bolt from a cylinder block especially when it snaps inside the block.

It's mandatory.

Would it be smarter to replace the head gasket at the same time? Or would I be alright replacing just the studs?
