Do you need own tools if working at a car dealership?
Toyota
Honda
Ford
Examples ^^^
Wanna be a Technician at a dealership with Toyota next year…
Yes, you need to have your own hand tools, minimum.
The dealership should provide most specialty tools.
Sorry but if your not already aware you need your own tools to work at a dealership or any other private sector non government mechanics job, your not going to be a tech at any dealership, This would have been explained to you at whatever tech school you attended to get your certifications, You might be able to sweep the floors, wash cars and clean the restrooms, in which case your tools will be provided, but your not going to be working on any cars
Goes with the territory. $1000 bare bones, honestly. That buys handtools and a few used airtools and a used toolbox if your lucky. I have 2 rollaways stuffed. Its not enough sometimes. Don't worry about snapon right now, just buy warrantied tools. The tool man finances lmao, careful or youll be giving him your whole check.
my toolman (cornwell and matco) says $10 or whatever a week. Always there, thursday or friday around noon. Good tools, very pricey. Start with basics, upgrade, keep your cheapies at home.
stay organized, stop several times a day to organize, put all your tools back in their holes, its cheap insurance. I keep 2 of everything in my boxes, and i also have sae sizes. Most new guys just use metrics. Anything over 1 inch, don't worry about metric or american, you won't round em off.
i use 1/4-3/4 drives with air for all. Word of advice, buy a good air ratchet and a butterfly, its money in the bank.
Yes you do have have your own tools the shop should supply the shop equipment.
- Which dealership is best working for, Toyota, Ford, or Honda? (Working on cars)? I'm joining a dealership program with an Internship and would like some help on a decision. I'll be working on cars.
- What tools do I need to change my brake pads? Explain in plain English to a non-mechanic. Send pictures even? Alright before I get into this, let me explain that I'm a 17 year old girl that has no one to do my brake pads, and I'm unable to transport my car to a shop. Recently bought a car that needs a brake pad change and decided it'd be a good learning experience to just do them myself. I've seen them done and also decided that if I **** something up that's my own problem. I have a 2005 Ford Taurus. My e-mail is nyarseniccatnip@gmail.com (Haha. Ironic.)
- Can I make more money working at a Ford dealership or open my own shop? I'm 19 going to uti automotive doing Ford Fact. I'm thinking about working at a dealership then open a shop specializing in ford Mustangs and doing performance. Is there any money to be made in what I want to do. I also want to buy cars and sell them. Also if anyone recommends trying to work for bmw Mercedes or Volvo let me know.
- Can I take my used car from a used car dealership, to the name brand dealership? I have a 2002 ford explorer, and the fuel level gauge is not working. Do I take it to a regular mechanic, or can I go to a ford dealership? or is there a way to do it myself?
