Charging devices in a car?
I usually was able to charge my phone and gps even when the car is turned off… It works on my 2004 ford car… Where as it doesn't work in other cars. Why is that. What is the universal setup in cars like.is it safe or possible to charge devices in a car even if the engine is turned off.
There's no universal setup. Some manufacturers provide current to the power outlets at all times. Others shut off the power if the engine is not running.
If current is shut off with the engine, then your battery will not be flat if you left something charging in the outlet while parking for the weekend. On the other hand, if current is available while the engine is off, you will be able to continue charging your device while you are filling the gas tank and paying for the gas.
Manufacturers choice and a criterion you can use to finalize your next purchase.
Hi well that ford is not wired like most ford cars as like most cars they will only charge items when the engine is running.
Most foreign based cars turn off the power outlets with the ignition and most American cars keep the 12v power outlets powered all the time. That is just the way it has been as long as I can remember.

- Is getting a lot of miles on a car actually bad for the car if the car is well taken care of? Back story: I have been using my car to visit a guy who lives about an hour away from me, and my mother has said that I "don't need to be putting all those miles" on my car. It is a well-taken care of Ford mustang with about 125,000 miles on it, and I have not noticed any issues at all. Cars are meant to be driven, in my mind. Is putting mileage on a care actually a bad thing, or is mother probably pulling an overprotective mother of an adult child?
- Got pre approved for a car loan but what do I do with my current car and car loan? Ideally I'd like to trade it in but I was approved up to 20 thousand dollars and Id like to buy a 14 thousand Ford Focus. My current car is financed but I just hate it and a year of ownership has been miserable. Am I able to trade in the car using the pre approval?
- Car check help before going long journey (new car owner)? Hi. I had just bought a new Ford Fiesta. This is my very first car that I owned. Previously, I would be driving a car that would be checked by my brother every time we travel on a long distance journey. Now I would be maintaining the car myself. I would like to find out what do I need to check and how could I do those checks on my car before starting my journey. The only thing I'm aware of checking are tire pressure.
