What oil is good for - car - ford car?

When changing oil, what sort of a oil suits best for my
ford- mercury sable - 2004 -130k miles on it - car

i was told about some synthetic and high mileage oils-

please advise on the difference - and the onei should go for

Find the proper weight in the owner's manual. Use anything API certified that's that weight. That's up to standards so it should have all the detergents and so on you need.

A good quality full synthetic can save a tiny bit of money in short term mpg and in the long term from reduced wear for maintaining late life mpg & performance. But if you change your oil much more frequently than what the owner's manual recommends, the cost of the synthetic could exceed any savings. Some good ones include Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Redline, and AMSoil.

For your 2004 MERCURY SABLE You would need:
SAE 5W-20 Signature Series 100% Synthetic Motor Oil (ALMQT)

Simply use a quality brand full synthetic or synthetic blend. Look at your owner's manual to find the recommended weight. Stick with that weight regardless of mileage.

The engine has been designed to use the oil Ford specifies, why would you use anything else?

Follow owners manual. Install same oil that was used in the past.

The important thing to worry about is the WEIGHT of the oil.
It's a number like 5w-20, which is what your car takes. It's very important to make sure you use ONLY THAT oil, because modern engines are very well made, and different oils will make the engine run not as good.

Now you have to choose the brand. Everyone has their own brand. I prefer Castrol. I"ve always found it to be very good oil.
There's regular oil, synthetic oil, part synthetic, and high mileage oils. I personally have never used higher mileage oils, not sure what the difference is.

I would suggest Castrol 5w-20 synthetic oil. Synthetic oil is slippery than normal oils, and it lasts longer in use, so you don't have to change it out as much. It costs a little bit more, but it helps the engine to run better.

But if you don't like to spend that much money, you can go with normal oil, but make sure it is the 5W-20 weight oil.

If you just go to walmart automotive, you can get your oil changed very easily and cheaply. The normal 5W-20 oil change is about $30-35. If you get synthetic oil, it will cost about $55.

So what you use is your choice, but make sure you use only 5W-20 weight oil.

Depends what you've been running in it. I wouldn't try changing to different types at this stage of the game.
Just use a good brand like Penszoil and make sure you use the correct weight, probably 5w30.
Change it along with the filter every 3,000 to 4,000 miles.

I think the high mileage oils are basically a rip-off.

  • Oil pressure - in my dashboard - CAR OIL CHANGE -? Hi i'm getting the below message in my dashboard. Mine is a 10 yrs old ford card LOW OIL PRESSURE. could the above be due to ENGINE OIL due to be replaced. Or oil gone old or bad. i jut recently changed oil - its a 5k miles synthetic oil.
  • I use the correct oil in my car, the engine overheats, can short journeys make the oil thin and overheat? Hi, I use the correct recommended oil in my car, the engine can overheat, can short journeys make the oil thin and overheat or is the a fundamental problem with the engine? I have a 2007 Ford Fiesta
  • Wrong oil in the car and disappearing oil? I have a 2008 ford escape the place where i've been taking my car has been putting in 5W30 oil in my car rather than the 5W20 it is supposed to have. Will this cause damage to my vehicle and could this cause the oil to disappear (it's not being burned off as there's no smell and its not leaking as there's no spots under the car)?
  • Why did the change oil light just come on in my car after an oil change? We have a 2016 Ford Escape and we just had the oil changed about 1000 miles ago at a Fox Ford near us. The oil light was not on when we went there and was not on after we left. It just came on now with a message saying that the oil needed to be changed. So what is causing this? I know the light doesn't need to be reset because it was not on before the oil change or afterwards until now.
