Are diesel vans not popular in the US?

I'm trying to buy a used Ford Transit or a Chevy Express with a diesel engine but there are only a few on the internet and most of them are gasoline vans

Because getting stuck behind one in traffic sucks. Those diesel fumes are horrible to breathe!

99% of all vans in Europe are diesel… In fact have never seen a petrol van… And properly serviced they don't stink in traffic. And most do at least 40 mpg's .plus the diesel engine will easily out pull a petrol engine… Don't believe it? Go on youtube… Film on there of America's biggest and most powerful pick up truck… Giant v8 engine .hooked up to a landrover 2 litre diesel… Like a tug of war… The landrover dragged it down the road

Hi so as America is so gasoline favoured. Diesel is reserved for semi's. That is why they use gasoline with delivery vans.

In America, gasoline is cheaper than diesel

Most vehicles in the US are gas-powered, not diesel powered. Usually only large trucks and semi trucks use Diesel here in the US.

I've seen very few diesel cars where I live (<10)

Yes, Diesel van is not popular in the US because most of the van use gasoline. But clever driver always uses Diesel in their van.

Unfortunately the US is still using agricultural type diesels and has poor quality diesel fuel available.
I'm in Europe
The idea of my clean high power diesel engine is foreign to them.
They have had very cheap fuel so no pressure on car makers to develop clean diesel engines
They also distrust small capacity high power engines so they sell badly in the US.

Once a company buys one they usually drive them into the ground before getting rid of them.

You Americanos are addicted to gasoline. We in the UK and Europe have had diesel vans and cars for many years. As a result makers have developed 2 litre diesels that churn out close to 200 bhp. These diesels are turbo charged and still return 60+ mpg. Maybe the US will catch us up one day?

About the only small diesel powered utility van you're going to find in the USA is the Sprinter van from Mercedes. Full-size vans like the Ford Transit or Chevy Express are just not big sellers on the American market, and American manufacturers really haven't been interested in developing and certifying a diesel engine for such a small market segment.

  • Are Station wagons related to Mini Vans? I heard that the Ford D186 platform cars are Ford Windstar, Ford Taurus, and Mercury Sable. Because these three cars are on the exact same platform I think the Ford Taurus Station wagon model (1986-2007) is the smaller version of the Ford Windstar minivan. So are Station wagons a more smaller version of minivans (ex. Ford Taurus and Windstar)?
