96 Ford crown Victoria Idle problems. Sputtering and Dies sometimes?
I own a 96 crown vic 4.6 It seems to run fine going down the road, when i come up to a stop light or let off the accelerator it will start sputering and if i don't put it in nuetral it will die. Even in nuetral it will sometimes load up and start sputtereing and act like it will die but it has never died in nuetral. Ignition system? Coil plugs wires maybe? FUEL filter? Any guesses anyone?
Fuel filter and idle speed adjustment are the first suspects to investigate.
When was the last time you did a simple parts tune up, You know, plugs. Wires, rotor cap and rotor?
How about an air filter?
Aside from general maintenance, Vacuum leaks, the idle speed control or the throttle position sensor can effect the idle.
Lucas (gas) helped my 98 Monte Carlo. Was stalling out, put lucas in tank, did not stall again!
- 2007 Ford Taurus rough idle and dies of I don't put my foot on the gas? I have a 2007 Ford Taurus that has a very rough idle but once I get to 30 miles per hour or so everything is fine. Since this started my battery is always dead when I go to start my car. I've replaced the ignition coil and the wires cause autozone said that was the problem. But it still is acting the same way. The car dies when in idle and I don't know what else to do. Any help is appreciated.
- 1998 Ford Taurus Dies At Low Idle? 1998 Ford Taurus I know needs new alternator because battery won't stay charged. When I boost the vehicle off it will run at 1000 RPMs smooth. No vibration. As I lower RPMs below 1000 it begins to sputter almost like it's missing. Eventually will die completely. Could the alternator not keeping charge to the system cause this? If not what could be other problems?
- I bought an Actron CP9125 Code Reader to try and diagnose a rough idle at cold start on a 98 Ford 4.0 engine. The rough idle had not caused? The CEL to come on. I plugged the code reader in with just the key on and pressed read and the little asterisk goes half-way across the screen one time and stops. I press the read button again and it reads 0 codes. I was thinking it would scan multiple times to check for pending codes or other issues. I tried it with the engine running and the same thing happens. Is this code reader operating properly?
- Ford Crown Victoria Mods? What are some easy and preferably cheap mods to do on the Crown Victoria's 4.6L V8. Also I was wondering if its unreasonable to expect 300 HP after a few of these mods. Not looking for visual mods here just performance.
