1996 Ford Probe GT 2.5 motor build?
1996 Ford Probe GT 2.5 motor build?
So I bought a 1996 Ford Probe GT in great running order for a 1000.00 I can't complain about the car at all very trusting for a vehicle that 17 years old. I will say this is not my first probe GT this is my 4th the first 2 being the 2.2 turbo/intercooled motored car which I loved very snappy quick and could keep up with some of the quicker cars around town. I'm wanting to a motor swap and turbo the V6 in which I have now I'm curious though the car had a auto when it was new but they switched it to a 5spd manual which I love! My question is if I turbo this car I'm going to buy a newer motor with a guarantee the turbo kit and the plubing etc. Do I need to remap the computer for this? Can I get away with what I have for a fuel pump/injectors? And how does a guy map out the ecu? These are a few things I have not a clue how to do I didn't plan on doing another with the pistons on the new motor or the head work If I messed with the heads I have a feeling then I would have to mess with the pistons and I do not want to do that basically I want to know what kind of bolt-ons can a guy get for these that does not require alot of different tuning. I know that I can get the cold air intakes, msd igition, things of that nature KN filters all that but my biggest question is what would you all recommend to go with the turbo part of it and I'm thinking of a single shot of NOS as well just kinda need to know a few things that would be good for me to do I really do not want to go over 3k on the build and between the motor, turbo kit, and nos kit I'm already 1500 in. Thanks ahead of time for any info anyone can give me… PS yeah I know its a probe who cares whatever well its like this too me mustangs and camaros are a dime a dozen rather build something that not alot of other ppl have!
Hi best of luck it will keep you lonely and penniless then till you see the light and dump this piece of old FORD junk.
" if I turbo this car I'm going to buy a newer motor"
You'll probably need to rebuild it first. The Mazda KL does have forged rods, but the crank is cast and probably isn't going to tolerate a lot of boost. I don't know if the pistons are forged or not. But you're going to want forged pistons with forced induction.
"Do I need to remap the computer for this?"
Absolutely. If you run the stock tune with a turbo or supercharger, it run way too lean and it will burn up in short order
"Can I get away with what I have for a fuel pump/injectors? "
Probably not, when your force in more air, fundamentally, you need more fuel to go with it.
" and how does a guy map out the ecu?"
If you have to ask how, you can't do it. What you do is have the car dyno tuned by a person who does know what they are doing. You'll want to have the car towed/transported there preferably. As it's a bad idea to drive a car with a stock tune and an aftermarket turbo on the road.
" didn't plan on doing another with the pistons on the new motor or the head work If I messed with the heads I have a feeling then I would have to mess with the pistons and I do not want to do that basically "
If you want to turbo the engine, you're going to want forged pistons. If you don't want to have the engine properly prepped for forced induction, then I suggest you forget about the whole idea. If you don't take the proper precautions, the life of your newly turbocharged engine will be short.
"I really do not want to go over 3k on the build and between the motor, turbo kit, and nos kit I'm already 1500 in. "
LOL. Umm, A proper rebuild will run around $1500, a decent vehicle specific turbo kit will be another $3k-$5k, and a small nitrous oxide system will run another $1500. $3000 is not realistic budget for this kind of project at all. You should plan on spending close to $7000 for this. If you're not okay with that, then just cut your losses now.
- Which will be finished first? The FBI investigation of Kavanaugh or Mueller's Russia probe? Christine Ford's lawyer Debra Katz said no "artificial limits as to time or scope should be imposed on this investigation." When asked if they could get the investigation done in a week, a senior FBI official told Fox News, "That depends on the schedules of everyone we'd have to interview, including the accuser, accused and witnesses."

- What is the difference between a boat inboard motor and a car motor? I need to replace the motor in my boat and I have a Ford 300 6 cyl. Engine in my back yard. Can i use it for the boat? What needs to be modified?
- 1989 Ford Probe GT Crankshaft Position Sensor #2? I recently got my car scanned because the check engine light is on and it came back as the Crankshaft Position Sensor #2. I didn't know that '89 Probes had that sensor, and after looking around, I could not find any information on it. I'm wondering 1. If the sensor is replaceable and 2. Where is the sensor even located and 3. How to get the engine check light off.
