I don't know for sure but my guess would be the mid to late 50's. If it was not then I would guess it started with the Falcon which was what 62?
Could be wrong, but I think the first use on the full-size Ford was 1970 - perhaps mid-size as well. First plastic grill I saw on any car was '67 Pontiac Tempest/LeMans.
My 71 pinto had a plastic grill.
