Would it be easy to replace the windows in a 2000 Ford Explorer?

I'm thinking about getting a 2000 Ford Explorer Limited as my next car. I like the Limited over any of the other trim packages. I don't mind the privacy glass that came standard on the Limited. I think it would look really good without the privacy glass. The base model had clear windows all the way around. I was thinking of getting the rear windows from the base model. Would this be an easy thing for me to do to this car?

Yes. Just find an old junker in a junk yard to get them from. Start with taking the junkers out. That will give you a really good idea on how each window comes out and if one breaks the junk yard may not charge you, unless you break several.

Sure you can take the door panels off and replace the glass, maybe a junkyard would give you credit if you give them the current windows.
But I think you are overthinking it, I would just leave them alone. What if there's some problem, and while it can be done, it does require removing the door panel, disconnecting the wires, etc.
On a 2000 year car I'm sure you will have many other repairs that I would put ahead of changing working windows. Those would be brake calipers, struts, body mounts, wheel bearings, muffler system, belts, AC leaks, changing All the fluids, steering rack, etc.

Leave it be and buy the one you want.
privacy glass is coveted to those without it.
Auto glass does not bolt in or push-in anymore.
Inside the doors, you need very small hands.
and some bandages.
used glass very often breaks, especially if urethaned into place.
ask a glass company to estimate one of each type, do the math.

  • Is a 1970 ford thunderbird easy to fix up? I've found a pretty good deal on one but it's missing motor and tranny. I've found those too, but I was wondering how hard it would be to do this. Also, is it possible to put a 2005+ drivetrain from say an impala or mustang or something in it? I want it to be so I have to fix it less. Don't worry, not changing interior or anything. Just the stuff under the hood.
  • Ford Fiesta 2008 petrol only starts with easy start? I had the fuel pump and filter and exhaust ventilation something? Changed and it was starting and then when it was getting down to around 80 miles left in the tank it would start bogging out, but was fine with a full tank, now even with a full tank it will only start with easy start?
