Why does my car die when it slows down/stops?
It literally dies every time I either brake or let up off the gas, but starts back up fine. I recently changed 3 spark plugs (1 had stuff in the way and I was strapped for time). I plan on getting to the rest tomorrow. What could cause this?
I'll also add that, when it slows down, all the lights get dim, but when I accelerate, the lights go back to normal
The car is a 2004 ford explorer eddie bauer 4.6L
That sounds like your not getting enough electrical output from the alternator that keeps the engine running and the battery charged. It also could be the engine timing. If you have an RPM gage, the engine should be idling about 700 rpms approximate to keep the engine running.
The idle speed is probably set too slow, and it's dying while your car is slowed down.

- Why my car stops accelerating while driving? Have a Ford Fussion 2007. I was driving at about 40MPH and my car suddenly stops moving like if it was on neutral it accelerate by it self wth out moving even though it was on drive. I pulled over, turn it off and started again and it took me back home normally but now it did it again I took it to a mechanic and he put it in the computer but he says nothing is showing it seems that everything is ok but that car now is not moving! It only goes on reverse or low driving but not drive
- Why doe my car start, sturtter, then die? I have a 2006 Ford freestyle, sometimes when I start it, it will stutter and die. When this happens all I have to do is give it some gas and it will start just fine. Is this a problem with the fuel pump? Or something else?
- Why did my car start and die when put into gear? Now it won't start at all? It's a cold winter day (below zero) Car started right up! I let it run for about 2 minutes, I put it in gear and it just died. I figured it's cold out, not real surprising, but when I tried to start it again, it won't start! Turns over fine but engie won't start! Any ideas? 2003 Ford Taurus 3.0L
- Why is my engine shaking during idle at stops and park? I got a ford 1999 taurus SE with 100,000 miles on it. I just changed the spark plugs and wireset out and it got even worse. I was thinking the IAC might of just gone bad but before I go get one I wanted to ask if there was anything else I could test before buying more new stuff for it.
